as bad as it sounds it could just be a loose rocker arm or bent pushrod. either of the 2 would be easy to dismiss if you take off the valve covers and start up the car so you can tell exactly where the sound is coming from.

cant get your clip to work dude.

but i did take the valeve cover off and every thing seemed to be ok. everything was tight.

the first day i noticed it i had to go to the store so i took it. drove it easy and when i came back it wasnt making any noise at all! seems like it is worse when i first start it up the slowly begins to quieten.

i have no clue. thanks for all the help though...

what exactly has happened when a bearing has spun?

and will their always be shavings in the oil when that happens?
thanks

I REALLY hate to say this my man but that's EXACTLY what my car sounded like a couple of months ago. I thought it was like an exhaust leak. Started tearing down the motor and found out I spun my 4,7 and 8th mains.

And yes. I drained my oil and it looked like glitter and a lil bigger pieces.

Sorry I know you didn't wanna hear that.

Let me know what it was. I'd like to know if its something else. I'd be surprised.

quick questions,
whats your oil pressure @idle?
what about drive?
when you had the valve cover off did you rev the motor?
both valve covers off?
Is it a manual tranny or automatic? Why I ask is my friends sounded the same and a week later he spun the flexplate, we put a new one in and no more noise!!

pressure stays around 40 in park and in drive. i had the valve cover off(only the side the noise was coming from).

i dont think its the flexplate cause its loud like in the video at startup but as the motor warms up for around 10-20 minutes it gets hard to hear as you rev it. but it is still there.

there is also no metal in my oil, on the dipstick anyways. only some small bubbles or something.

Did you have shavings in your oil????? Another think...maybe this is good news but mine got louder as the car warmed up (driven for 20min.) Way louder. Like someone knocking on my door.

Keep us updated I would like to know what it was.

so there is no variances in oil pressure? Have you checked your sending unit lately? Go and buy another oil filter and cut the old one in half to look for shavings since they will be trapped IN the filter and not dribble out, then you will be able to tell if it's a spun bearing(s) or when you run it w/o the valve cover see if the oil is shiny almost glittery in the light.

On 3000GT's a pretty bad tapping noise is commonly cause by the lifters not pumping up right...and in this case possibly a collapsed hydraulic lifter. Rod knock (cause by a spun bearing) is most noticeable by: It doesnt go away at higher RPM's, and it doesnt go away as the motor warms up. It gets louder with higher RPM. Thats about it...at worst, pull the oil pan...ull know pretty easily if thats whats wrong...
