Correct Way to Ajust Rockers

Ok this is going to be a poll to decide what is the best way to aftermarket rocker arms. Just seeing how most people on here do it. I have done it by method 1 for who knows how long.

METHOD 1 1.Turn poly lock with set screw backed out down until drag is felt on the push rod. 2.Hold the nut with a wrench and tighten down the set screw untill it hits the rocker stud. 3. take the wrench and give the rocker a 1/8th of a turn or what ever is needed according to the lifters.

METHOD 2 1.Turn poly lock with set screw backed out down until drag is felt on the push rod. 2. Turn the nut 1/8th of a turn. 3. tighten down the middle set screw and your done.

Thanks for your time!!

Joe

I used method 2 when I installed my new roller rockers last weekend and it worked.

I have new oem lifters so I went to almost half a turn.. then tightened the set screw and gave the whole poly/set screw convo and additional squeese till I got the perfect half turn...

No problems so far.

Another vote for your method 2. The set screw is meant to bind and lock the setting of the nut once adjusted, not the other way around. Using method 1 your actually locking your adjustment in with no preload and then forcing the nut a 1/4 turn. That can't be a good thing.

Best is subjective. Both methods listed have been used and worked for people. I don't see a "correct" answer to this question.

I use method 2. Method 1 does not allow you to feel how much pressure there really is on the set screw. I don't like that.

I believe the "best" method is neither of those. Its the one where you set them with the motor running. Takes under 5 minutes to set all of them and is easily as accurate if not more accurate then the other 2 methods.

yes its easy that way... but what if the plunger doesnt get dead centered in the lifter? ah Blah what do I know.

I did one lifter like that and it was easy... by the way I thought he was asking how to tighten the poly locks properly.. maybe I am wrong..

I'll keep checkin on this post .. its interesting..

1/8 turn? If you are using stock lifters, or OEM replacements, you want at least 1/4 turn past zero lash. Once you actually do it, you will realize that this is made out to be a bigger deal than it really is.

Re: Correct Way to Ajust Rockers

Set the rockers with the motor warm, but the idea that they should/need to be set on a running engine is one that escapes me.
