The stock programming sets the idle speed at 800rpm, fully warmed up coolant. Mine idled there, +/-25rpm, consistantly. Of course that's reading it from the PCM, and not from the stock tach, which typically read 900-950rpm.

While checking the idle with a scanner, check the IAC counts. They should be in the range of 20-40 counts, varying slightly to pull the idle back to 800rpm. If the IAC counts bottom out at "0" before the idle comes down to 800rpm, you might have the TB blades open too far, or a vacuum leak.

24degF-------800-------1000------1000

46degF-------800--------950-------900

68degF-------800--------900-------900

89degF-------800--------900-------900

111degF------800-------900-------800

So if it doesn't, what does that mean?

I bought the car 4 years ago like that and it's never changed

As far as I know, the factory tachometers usually read about 200 RPM's higher than the actual RPM's. My tach shows 1000 at idle but when hooked up to a scanner it's actually idling at 800. Just some food for thought.
