Cooling Fans Wont Turn On

My fans fans will not turn on. I don't know what but if I stop at a red light my temp rises. I know I had it at the dealer over the weekend and they replace the smog pump but other than that nothing has been messed with. Any ideas on what it could be.

Thanks all

A way to see if your fans work is to turn on the A/C. There are three relays for the fans. 1 for the left and one for the right and one for when you turn on the heat or A/C. Another way to kick them on is unplug a sensor so it will throw an SES code and that will kick on the fans.

If the fans dont come on with ac i would then check coolant temp sensor. No ses light? You can jump them with a battery to see if they work.

If the fans work with a hot wire what would cause them to not to turn on.

You would have to start diagnosing the problem if the fans don't turn on with the hot wire. Try first with the A/C on. If they don't turn on, let the car warm up...it will get very very high in temps, but the fans should turn on. If they turn on, its the relay that turns them on when the A/C is on. If they don't, check the other fan relays.

Usually there are 3 possibilities.

1. The fan motor is shot. Take them out and check.
2. The 'engine controls' fuse is shot (happened to me)
3. Your PCM doesn't want to turn on the fans until a higher temperature.

Check your fuses. Same thing happened to me when my air pump went out. It would blow the fuse that also powered the cooling fan relays.
