Cooling fan turns on right away....help

94 Camaro z28, LT1, 85k miles. Runs fine. Here is the problem:
When I start the car, the cooling fan comes on right away (after 10-15 seconds) and stays on while running, regardless of engine temp. Also, my AC compressor won't kick on. I think these two issues are related.
When restarting the car warm, it takes a little longer for the fan to come on, maybe a minute or so, but the AC comp just will not run in any mode ( normal ac, or defrost) Also noteworthy, is the fact that the "service engine soon" light comes on at the same time the fan turns on.

I had a the exact same problem in an older toyota, and discovered that one of the wires had been knocked off of the low pressure AC valve. I soldered it back on and all was solved.

Can any offer any advice or ideas on solving the problem with this GM car?
THanks. Lydell

Scan it for codes. The fans come on because the SES is on. That's the way it works.

ses = service engine soon = check engine light, the light in the dash panel that comes on when the computer gets certain trouble codes.

you can either get a scanner, or Autozone will scan the car for free and show you what trouble codes are stored in the computer.

if i were you, id reset the computer before you get the the car scanned and wait for the ses light to come on, that way if any codes are in there that arent relevant to your problem, it wont confuse you.

as for the malfuntion, i dont know if this would do it, but theres a sensor thats screwed onto a schrader valve on the ac line next to the front pass. wheelwell. it could be bad, or not on all the way, or something like that. i know that it monitors ac pressure to tell the pcm when the ac is on so it can adjust the fuel. hope some of this is helpful.
