Question Coolant Temperature Sensory(Pics) in Water Pump

Hey guys...I know I keep bugging people about my water-pump swap but I have no one else to help me out with this...dad went out of town and I hate driving the mom wagon Subaru...

I have both the water pumps out and everything and I ended up breaking the female connector on the coolant temperature sensor on my old water pump(couldn't get a long enough socket to fit over it to break it free)...so I went over to those Peppy Boys and bought a new one...went to put it into my new water pump and it is really tight to get in...I only got it about this far, and that was with a "18 cheater bar...so yeah I got two short movies of both sensors...I wanted to know if this thing is fine where it is...here look inside :

This video is just two still pictures for 6 seconds each(so you know nothing is wrong with you comp )

Put some teflon tape or pipe dope on the threads (this will make it easier to screw in) and don't over tighten it (you may crack the water pump). These fittings are tapered threads and are not meant to be tightened until you can't see any more threads. They only need to be tightened enough that they don't leak. Note too, that not all fittings may have the same amount of threads on them.

Here's a "heads up" for you. I also own a '93 (Purple Pearl also...LOL). Do you know that the PCM and the guage get their reading from different locations? The PCM reads off the water pump..The guage reads off the drivers side head. And, YES, they always read different! The correct reading is the one at the water pump. GM sells a kit to make both read from the WP...So your guage will read correct, and be in synch with what the PCM sees.

The sender is part # 10096181 $13.98
The new wire connector is part # 12102748 $16.00

You simply screw the new 3 prong connector in the WP, and splice the new 3 wire connector to the old connector wires, and the wire that used to go to the sensor in the head.

Easy mod, and now I know what my REAL water temp is with my guage.

That sounds like a worthy mod... thanks for posting this..

I would say that the sensor is right for 93-97?[since both the PCM and guage sensors are listed as fitting 93-97..]
Do you have an AC Delco # for it also?

And does the existing guage wire in the drivers cylinder head reach the water pump sender?
[I looked and it appears that it will reach no prob]

Now to find that 'connector/plug' [part # 12102748] for cheaper than 16 bux! and it's well worth doing..

The 2 part numbers are all you need for the mod...The "sender" is also called a sensor..

Yes, your stock wire from the head well reach.
