Coolant leak issues

Hey all-

So, I was losing coolant and losing power steering sporadically at low speeds which I attributed to leaking on the belt/slippage on the ps pulley. I traced the leak(so I thought) to the GM crimp connection on the short 90 degree hose from the water pump to the bleeder valve on the heater hose. I replaced that hose and when I went to fill it with coolant via the spill free funnel, I started to get a steady stream coming out of the bottom of the water pump.

Any ideas here? I really did not think my issue was at the water pump or I would have thought the leak would have been far more pronounced. However, the stream was almost as steady as I was putting coolant in the radiator.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Re: Coolant leak issues

If coolant is coming out of the weep hole in the bottom of the pump even before it is under pressure, the shaft seal is toast and you need a new pump.

Re: Coolant leak issues

Unfortunately, that's what I figured. I cannot for the life of me figure out why it just started leaking from the weep hole AFTER I replaced the heater hose. Then again, I usually filled it from the overflow while this time I filled directly at the radiator and it was a steady stream.

Any ideas for protecting the opti during removal?

Also, I noticed on Rock Auto that there are 2 different AC Delco water pumps. One is $97 and the other is $220. What's the difference?

Thanks
