Considering Cat-back swap

Ever since the installation of my FLP long tubes, my Borla cat-back has been somewhat less than pleasing (sound-wise). I know other members have had the same complaint. It just doesnt sound "right". Ive been desiring the chambered exhaust ever since I discovered it, but never had a valid reason to ditch my $700 borla...until now. Does anyone out there have a GMMG chambered exhaust with long tubes? Is it worth the swap? I assume it will be slightly quieter than the Borla (which I run wide open), but how will it sound? Decisions, Decisions...

I had the same problem. Borla sucks with LTs. Mine had to go and it did in favor of a Hooker system. Plus, I cant justify paying abvove $350 for a cat-back anymore, its not worth it with good alternatives like Hooker's which IMO cant be beat for the price.

I think it would be a huge waste of money..borlas about as good as you can get...thats money that can be used in others areas that your LT1 can use it..ie. cam, etc. If you really hate the sound that much and can unload the borla to offset the course i guess go for it

Are you running no cats? If so I would try a pair of these exhaust cones , one at the end of each header. I added one to my exhaust after removing my cat with SLP headers/Borla and it sounds much better, it really helped get rid of the "ugly" sounds you get with no cats.

Magnaflow and Hooker sound very good with LTs in my opinion.

Thumbs up

JUST DO IT!

I got the chance to hear an LS1 with the GMMG cat-back and FLP LT headers using highflow cats this past spring and oh man...What a sound! Very deep, very mean, and very refined (incredibly muscular WOT tone). Waaaaay better than any LT1 with some headers and either a Borla or SLP Loudmouth system that I've ever heard...

So if that combo sounded that good on an LS1, just think how much better that same set-up would sound on the LT1 motor...

BTW, do a search under Mikey97z in this section. In his sig, he has a really mean sounding rev clip of his GMMG/FLP with cats combo you might like to hear...

Do the swap man! I also had a borla catback and sold it for a hooker system (im running lt headers). My car sounds alot better but i just bought a used gmmg catback (I couldn't resist) hopefully i'll have it by next week. I'll let you know how it turns out. How long have you had your borla? You could probably get anywhere from $300-500 for it. Use that cash plus some out of your pocket for the gmmg. Good luck

I have done the exact some switch you are looking at. I had Hooker LTs and Borla but I have no cats. After hearing my dad's Berger SS with GMMG I was set on getting it no matter what the cost. I have no regrets at all. GMMG is hands down the best sounding exhaust for LT1s or LS1s IMO. Its so much more refined and deeper sounding than Borla. Its hard to explain, it just sounds better . GMMG is a little quieter as well. And now with my cam it just sounds badass . If you want to do the switch go for it. I promise you won't think twice. Plus if your Borla is in good condition you can sell it used for $300 or maybe even $400 so your cost is only $300 or so for the GMMG. And IMO I think it will slightly better with cats.

I purchased Loudmouth catbacks from slp about 2 weeks ago im in school right now but UPS is suppose to bring them today, ill have them on by tomorrow, ill tell you how good they sound, but alot of peopel thing they sound better than Borla so maybe you should look into that before GMMG which is alot more than SLP Loudmouth.

Ive considered the SLP, but I think their loudmouth exhaust is just a bit too obnoxious and unrefined for what im looking for. It's either I go with the chambered, or I stick with the Borla. One question: does the GMMG have a chambered intermediate pipe, or just the chambered rear section? My concern is that since I had to cut 2 inches off my Borla I-Pipe when I installed the FLP's, that I dont want to have to cut into a chambered section of the new exhaust I-Pipe to make it fit. Any feedback?

It uses a normal I-pipe, the chambered mufflers are in the rear section
