Confused about this cam

I bought a cam from a member here and was told it was a XE230/236

I got it, and the end of the cam and the cam both say XR282H

They specs seem similar except the LSA.. is is just a different name for the same cam? Here's the specs:

.510/.520
282/288 duration at .006 tappet lift
230/236 duration at .050
110 lobe seperation

Any more info you need, holler...
just want to see what I got here as opposed to what I thought I was getting...

Any part numbers? 08-432-8 perhaps?

Don't know if the XR282H is the same cam as the 230-236 Xtreme for the LT1 but I'm thinking your cam should have a 07 prefix designating it's an LT1-type-core cam.

Any more info would help, thanks.

edit: 07 not 17

All XE cams that are bigger then the 224-236 are basically custom grinds. Even thou that person went to a site and bought it as shelf cam it's still a custom grind.

The numbers you'll see are going to be the grind# and core#. Good cam you got there she'll make you some nice power and sound mean *** while it does.

If it is indeed the XR282 then it's not a custom grind. That's a shelf cam for later roller cam blocks.
That's why there's some confusion here.

Only one way to find out now, call comp cams.

To answer your question, we would need to know what you thought you were getting. Only you know that.

The cam is a "custom" in the sense it is not in Comps catalog as an "off the shelf" grind for an LT1. So the person who ordered it could have had it ground with a variety of different LSA's and intake center lines. In addition, there are different lobes with 230 and 236 degrees of duration at 0.050" in the XE series. Looks like you got the lower lift XE lobes.

Sounds like a decent cam for a high revving, high CR LT1 though. You will need a good spring to take advantage of this cam. I suggest the #987 if you want to use one of Comp's.

part number is 08-432-8 and it says XR282HR-10

I knew it was a 110 LSA instead of the normal XE grinds 112, but thats the only think I thought was different. My understanding is it was the XE 230/236 just with a different LSA

It says to install on 106 intake center line.

I plan on using 1.6 rockers for more lift as well...

Am I doing better or owrse for my car which will be mainly a street strip car looking for 11s? (got heads, LTs, 3.73s, converter et streets, ton of weight loss, etc all in the mix as well)

Practically speaking, an LT1 cam must be installed straight up. The cam card is referring to the intake center line, which is 106 degrees. IOW, it has 4 degrees of advance ground in.

A 110LSA vs. a 112 will narrow the power band and probably make a bit more peak hp. With a converter and 3.73's it should work.

What numbers are engraved into the end of the camshaft? I looked at my 230/236-112 that I ordered from Combination, and it has the lobe specification numbers, lobe separation angle, and intake center line written on the cam itself.

the end of the cam has the same thing as the cam card. Part number and the XR282HR-10

forgot to mention I will be using crane 10308 springs which I am hoping should be sufficient

The 08-432-8 tells you what you need to know. Were you under the impression that this was an "LT1" cam, cause this is not an LT1 cam-core. Like I said before, Comp uses the 07 prefix to designate a LT1-type cam core because the cam core is specific to these engines.
The custom Xtreme grinds are designated by the lobe type. Typical grind number would look something like this, CS3315-3316-H112

Which tells you that the intake uses the 3315 lobe (230* .340 lobe lift) on the intake, 3316 lobe (236* .347) on the exhaust and that the cam is a hydraulic with a 112* LSA (H112).

This is the what I've seen from the custom cams Comp grinds using these lobes.

I don't think you got the cam you were expecting... or maybe there was some miscommunication there. Check with Comp to see if that core will even work... my guess is that it won't.

I was just looking at the cam again and noticed that there is a distributor drive in the back. Is that common to all lt1 cams?

I'm going to have some serious problems here if I find out this isn't a lt1 cam.

Chevrolet, 8 cylinder
305ci to 350ci

Yes, there will still be a drive on the cam. No problems there.

Totally understandable. I read the thread and the mention of an "opti" makes it pretty clear that the cam is for an LT1/LT4.

Check this out: http://www.compcams.com/catalog/042.html

That seems to indicate that the 08 prefix cams will not work in the LT1 as the cam core is specific. As NiteRider said, I think we're at the point where a call to Comp is imperative.

Good luck.
