Re: Comp Cams R Lifters, Why have yours failed or not?
I had the OEM style lifter and the rockers kept coming loose. I wouldn't say those are a sure thing either. Then again I had a clown for a mechanic, talking to a retard at comp, trying to figure out the valve lash on crappy lifters that never wanted to pump up. So idk who to blame, but ill be using morels for the 383. Anyone want an OEM set with 10 miles on them? 2 might be bad....20 bux lol

I do agree that there are zero instructions and you have to know how to do it. With that being said they shouldn't fail if you put more preload on them.
Comp is not a bad company do deal with if you are a dealer and you understand the ins and outs of what is going on with all the parts. At the end consumer level it's not the best thing.

I did do the reload check after I initially started the car as it was loud. It still sound like a sewing machine, but it runs.

When I have ever had a problem I always had replacement parts, new cams ground etc... as I said it's who you go thru and who you deal with.
I've had cams with soft lobes get replaced free of charge, cams with a wrong step in the nose of the cam (core supplier problem) replaced. Comp R's fail and replaced etc... getting thru to them takes a ton of time but I would most likely talk to the company that I bought the parts from if I was having a problem with Comp.
Good Luck guys, but I really don't think bitching anymore about it is going to solve anything, never has in the past.
The one other thing I would add is when you start modifing a stock motor parts are going to break, things happen, that's just racing there is no way around that other than being informed. Hell you even see the best prepared teams like Nextel Cup teams have engine problems because of faulty parts, this stuff will happen no matter how well you plan for it.

Re: Comp Cams R Lifters, Why have yours failed or not?
FINALLY got ahold of somebody that was willing to get out of their chair at their desk. Wound up talking to the service manager. Got the same run around, .002-.004 preload, race lifter, constant adjusting, blah blah blah. Got my new set on the way though.
Edit - BTW if anybody wants them I've already got sealed power lifters in the car so I'm not gonna swap them back out since i'm not turning much RPM. I'll let them go for $165 shipped.
