Thanks.
I got 2 more emails from companies saying they have no problems with the COMP r's on there motors other than being finicky, and they recommend the 850's for under 6500 rpm.
So, I think we may be on to something here, as far as what lifters we really need. Why spend alot of money when you can use OEM type lifters with Beehives on a 6500rpm and lower motor?

More money and more trouble.. If you will go under 6500rpm you will definately use OEM lifters no doubt..! But if you will go over 6500 rpm you will get an hydra rev kit and will enjoy !

I have just over 3000 miles on my 383, and when I drained the oil there were at least 3 clips. I have CMS stage II heads and the high lift 230/236 cam. Motor spins to 6500 with no problems. I don't know how long they have been missing, and I really don't understand how over-tightening can cause the clips to pop off either. I know I tightened mine to the recommendation, but some people have suggested I overtightened them. I am not too happy that they are coming apart. I will probably give Combination a call tonight and see what they can do.

Just talked to CNC Heads in Florida and he has had some problems with comp "R's lifters also. He said that OEM's with the CC306 will be ok, so that's what I will do.

1 broken clip here in 1800 miles. Comp customer service sucks! Even though they were less than a year old, I can't get any satisfaction out of them so I replaced them with cranes.

Shouldn't cam profile also be taken into consideration?
I just don't think OEM lifters are a good choice for a street motor with cams that have 230+ duration and almost .600 lift.

Might as well add the Advanced Tech thread to this one.

The point of this forum is to get to the bottom of the failure of the Lifters. If everyone can give insight as to why, we may be able to narow it down. This will aleviate someone potentially ruining a motor.

Had the clips fail on 2 1/2 out of 16 lifters after about 1000 miles. The clips break, the lifter falls apart. Mild heads/cam setup all within proper spec. Made no sense to me, so I went elsewhere, and all's good again. After SEVEN months I got store credit with comp. They blamed me for the broken lifters. I wasnt pleased.

You have store credit? Why did they if they blamed you?
Not very good customer service. ALways take care of the customer, so he will return.

I saw this post so I went out to the garage and looked at my brand new Comp R lifters and it doesn't look like they have clips in them, at least not like the OEM clips. Are the clips supposed to be visible?

Steve, i've pretty much already told you what is happening. Only thing to do is run OEM ones or replacements, or upgrade.

Re: Comp Cams R Lifters, Why have yours failed or not?

I used Comp R lifters when I installed my heads/cam package. After a few thousand miles, I pulled of my intake to see what was making a ticking noise.

I found 4 lifters with broken retainer clips and damaged cam lobes as a result. I am pretty pissed although I think my problems were from poor installation and incorrect adjustment by the shop who did the install.

But to have the lifters fall apart like that just isn't right. I will be going back to OEM's unless someone has a better suggestion.
