i went with the SLP mainly because its metal and doesn't have any un-natural looking kinks or bends like some of the others i saw. Filter cleanings aren't that fun but its not too bad.

G2 sucks because it used the stock flat filter design. I picked up a k&n and I'm happy with it.

I added an ASM intake w/ a vortech elbow and my 1/8th mile times stayed the same, then I switched to a Lingenfelter intake and a 1LE elbow and dropped 2/10ths off (same track conditions).

Conclusion:
metal = heatsoak
plastic/rubber = faster times

I don't know why everyone is so down on the G2 you can put the K&N filter on the end of it and it will work fine.
Does anyone have the numbers to compare the G2 with the rest ?

I have the K&N, it filters the air fine, I just wish it wasn't so huge. The shape that it has, in my car at least, has it almost wedged between the radiator support's corner and the ABS module. I actually am leaning towards one of the more simple e-bay type ones. The only advantage to the "good" ones are that they usually stick the filter all the way down into the stock "air box".

Of course, now to change the filter you will have to undo 10+ small screws, and they are screwed into "speed clips". I don't know what they are really called, but I know they really suck. They move around, or the think piece of plastic or rubber they are mounted to gets fragile and breaks. Or they just fly off into the wide open space of your driveway, never to be seen again.

Oh yeah, you get to do all this under your car's front bumper, which gives you about 10? inches of working space. The air deflector is also in the way and needs to be unscrewed, I usually just bend it out of the way, and then get the base of the "air box" out of the way. Then you can reach up and start undoing the clamp, but it can be a real pain to undo that clamp. As suggested before, a very short screw driver helps alot.

And on the heat soak comment.... your intake manifold is heat soaked. Hell, in an F-body your entire ENGINE COMPARTMENT is heat soaked. Does the 1-2 ft of CAI really make a difference? If CAI related heat soak is such a killer, why aren't people wrapping their CAIs in header wrap, or getting them ceramic coated? Until someone puts up back to back dyno charts, same car, same engine, consecutive runs, different CAIs, I don't believe that any of them make better power. The only difference between them is looks, and ease of use.

I have the same intake on my Z. Yes it is a pain to work on but I think it looks the best.
