Simulators are for replacing the rear O2s in an OBDII vehicle. Since these O2s are used solely for monitoring the condition of the cat. The forward O2s should never be sub'd since they are used in conjuction with other sensors to control the actual mixture supplied to the cylinders. You never mentioned what year vehicle you have or anything else about the vehicle. OBDI only have front O2s used for mixture mangagement. OBDII have fronts for the same reason and rears for the reason listed above. It would appear you are refering to the fronts. They are never replaced.

As far as the rich condition and the O2s are concerned. Think about your problem for a second. The vehicle is running rich and the O2s are saying it's rich. Doesn't sound like an O2 problem. If the O2 says it's rich the PCM will usually pull fuel when that happens, not add fuel. Unless I don't understand what it is you are saying. Why don't you list the code and that might answer several questions for us.

If it is similar to a DTC45 or 65, it's very easy to test the function of the wires and the PCM without even buying an O2. simply jump the plack, the tan/white and the purple/white wires together and see what the PCM reads. Should be below 350 with the jumper in place.

I also suggest you check the oil if you haven't done so recently, for the presence of fuel by smelling the oil on the dipstick.
