P0118= Engine Coolant Temp sensor circuit high voltage. Its possible you may have a bad ECT sensor.

Do you have an AutoZone or other store nearby? Autozone and otheres will scan your vehicle and tell you what your codes mean. And if you are lucky might clear the code if it is no biggie. I believe you can disconnect you bat and it will also reset (of course you do not want to ignore anything that is important. JMHO

Look the codes up on Shoebox's LT1-specific list. Much more reliable than the generic code descriptions a scanner will put out.

The sensor is in the water pump housing, again the photo, courtesy of Shoebox:

Hard to say for sure, but if you have a multimeter, you can do a diagnostic on it and see. Shoebox has a good guide: http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#ect

Make sure you didn't bend the pins of the connector. I did that once and it wouldn't make a circuit because of no contact.

Not directly related, but everytime I try to get a new temp sensor for the head from Checkers, they give me one with 2 wires and mine only has one... what gives? They only have 2 wire ones, do I have to modify one of these to work, and if so how do I do it?

They're giving you the wrong sensor. The sensor in the water pump is the two wire sensor. The head only has the one wire. I'd find a new parts store.

Sounds like you replaced the sensor in the head, rather than the one in the water pump. Did you even look at the photo link I posted?

Yes Fred, that's the one in the water pump, it works fine, the one for my dash gauge isn't working. But Checkers (which is really the only decent parts store in Hawaii) doesn't have ANY temp sensors with only one wire, everything they show me has 2. I'm afraid if I have autozone or someone better than Checkers ship me one it will be the 2 wire one.

That's what is bound to happen when you highjack someone's thread... you've been around here long enough to know that
