Well this is what happend i shut my car off to wait for my girlfriend to come out of her house. then when we got ready to leave i turned the key on to start it and i usually wait for the fuel pump to build pressure and the pump stayed on forever. But then the fuel pump started to cut in and out and i heard a clicking noise under the hood so i turned the key off. I tried to start it again and it didnt do it again but the car wouldnt start so i put the pedal to the floor and turned it over and it started. But now its starting to throw code 36.

The "low resolution pulse" is a sequence of 360 pulses per cam revolution, generated by the Opti optical sensor. It allows the PCM to know precisely where the cam position is, so it can more accurately fire the injectors (94+ sequential) and spark. This reduces spark scatter and improves emissions. The PCM does not have to have the high res pattern to fire the injectors and plugs. It gets a "low resolution pulse" from the same optical sensor. That signal tells the PCM where the camshaft is, but only once every 1/8th of a resolution.... 8 pulses, rather than 360. So its not as accurate a signal. If the high res pulse signal disappears, DTC 36 sets, but the engine continues to run, and its generally not likely you will even notice the difference.

Is it possible you also got DTC 16? That would indicate you had lost the low res pulse pattern, and when that happens the PCM shuts down the fuel system, including the pump and injectors = no run.

The problems can be the result of a corroded or damaged Opti harness connector. Examining the connectors at both ends of the harness is a good place to start. The harness is a lot cheaper than a new Opti.
