Clueless

ive been told that my Z has a flat cam and i need to replace, first of all ive never heard of this and idk if this happens a lot so if u guys could throw some light on that... 2nd if i do i want to put a better cam in it.. i have absolutely no idea on what size and/or what all i will need to get the job done. i would like to gain hp from the ordeal but it is also my daily driver in the summer. pls help =]

Not a common problem. GM hotcam is budget friendly and streetable.

Not likely. All SBC after 1987 had roller lifters. It's easy to find out. Remove a valve cover and check the movement of the rocker arms.

Second, if the cam lobes were warn down, you would have a gap or movement between the pushrod and the rocker. SEVERE noise would be heard also.

Another thing, you would have no compression in the cylinders that have warn lobes.
