Not easy to do.... My old JBA's were coated ny Air Born, and the instructions that came with the headers from Air Born said to clean the headers with a Scotchbrite pad. I tried a "medium" pad, and it worked fine... did not scratch the coating, but removed residue from a nylon tie that had melted on a primary tube.

Before you start rubbing away with the Scotchbrite, test it somewhere not too obvious. It worked on my Air Born coating, and that coating was extremely high quality, based on what the headers looked like when I took them off after nearly 3 years. But some other brand might not be as hard... so PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
