ok, cool. I looked at his site, but didn't think to look in the cam install part, but it doesn't go into as much detail as I think I need. Do you have to remove the waterpump to remove the opti?

Re: Changing the Opti
Shoebox's site has a ton of technical stuff, but I dont think there is a write up specific write up on an optispark swap. I used his cam swap last year and it was to the tee , but it has alot of extra stuff you dont have to do to get the opti spark out. The only things you really have to do is:
* remove the intake piping
*unplug the coil from the opti
*Drain radiator, remove all hoses from the water pump
*remove the waterpump (some people like to remove the radiator for more clearance, this is not entirely nessicary)
*unplug electrical connection from opti
*3 screws hold th opti on, when you install the new one make sure the cam is indexed to the rotor on the back of the opti correctly.
Its not a very hard thing to do..I guess what im trying to say is once you do it you'll be able to do the whole thing again by memory.

Just go the "~Disassembling the front of the engine~" section and use what you need from that. Not everything will apply. The crank pulley and the water pump are the things that are in the way of the opti coming out.
The site I used to refer people to for opti replacement is no longer there.

Re: Changing the Opti
dont forget the air pump removal also dont forget the water pump gaskets. on your first try its gonna be around 5 hrs or more but after youve done it 5 times it gets down to 2 hrs . and you also might want to remove the fans...not a hard thing to do but will save you time in the long run.
