changing my opti

It has been 2 years since I did it last, but if you take off the water pump cant you just pull the opti out and up without taking the pulley off too?

Not that it matters much...

I will be doing this though in a few weeks.

You pay like 20 bucks and when you return it they give the 20 bucks back. i tried this today but the stock bolts wouldn't fit the assembly so i had to drill it out slightly and I still haven't been able to get the stupid thing off. any tips?

The pulley needs to come off as the opti needs to be pulled away from the timing cover. The pulley is blocking it.

Sounds like you have the wrong puller (it can be used but it's easier to use a 3-jaw puller).

Sounds like you have the wrong puller (it can be used but it's easier to use a 3-jaw puller).
Any ideas on how to make this one work as I can't return it now that its been modified? I got some longer bolts from lowes today that may work. also, i've read of a center, hub bolt that I was apparently unaware of. I think if I take it off, this puller may work.

If you are taking the center bolt out of the hub, you are trying to pull the hub off. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PULL THE HUB OFF THE CRANK TO CHANGE THE OPTI. You only need to pull the pulley/damper off the hub. Sounds like you are screwing the puller bolts into the threads on the hub arms, and pulling on it - WRONG WAY.

yes i realized i was accomplishing nothing and got the correct 3 claw puller. im all done with the opti replacement but i dont remember the orientation of the pulley to the hub and it has two weights on it and im not sure which way to put it. I noticed the hub has a nub on one side and the pulley has an arrow. anyone know if these are supposed to line up or am I screwed?

The hub has three arms. They are not evenly spaced. The pulley will only bolt to it in one position.

I appreciate your knowledge. I actually measured the distance and realized it. Opti is on and running strong so fingers crossed.
