changing the alternator????

changing the alternator????
ok. I know this is pretty straight forward and it's probably a pretty stupid question.
But, how do I change the alternator? Specifically concerning the serpentine belt. I realize that it's simply 3 bolts and the electrical connection (they are all loosened already)....that's no problem. But, how do I get the belt back on after the change.......taking it off is also a concern.
thanks for your help.

Re: changing the alternator????
The belt system uses a spring loaded tensioner located just below the power steering pump. Use a 13mm socket and a long handled ratchet to rotate the tensioner via the pulley center bolt to loosen the tension on the belt.

Re: changing the alternator????
It's spring loaded so once you rotate it, remove the belt from the tensioner and then let the spring rotate to its rest position. When reinstalling the belt, again rotate the spring to allow the belt to ride on the pulley and then spring tension will apply pressure to the belt. It will be obvious when you get under the car and take a look.

Re: changing the alternator????
You need to purchase an automobile repair manual for your car. No flame intended at all.
Reading up before you do a job will help you out with the basics.
Have fun as once you get into it it is a lot of fun working on cars.
