change knock sensor?

well i was planning on changing my knock sensor out. i'm not throwing any codes and it is pulling a little timing so i know its working. part of it is loose (not sure if its supposed to be or not), but i just wanted to change it anyway. well i keep on hearing about people breaking the sensor off in the block when trying to pull it out and i'm just wondering, should i leave it alone? can the sensor "gradually go bad" and create false readings or does it just work or not work?

Its a tiny "microphone", exposed to the coolant. Its possible for it to get plugged with solids.

Have you tried the LT4 Knock Module. I notice you have roller rockers and they can/could cause the timing to be pulled. I believe the LT4 KM helps to compensate for the extra valve train "noise".

Spray it with a little pb blaster the night before and if you don't plan to drain the coolant make sure you got quick hands cause mine coolant was flying out of there damn quick! The torque on the sensor is pretty low so it should come out easy, unless you got luck like me
