Centerline Telstars - longer studs?

So far I haven't found anything in a search...I have 15x8 telstars, 5" backspace, with ET Streets. I just test fit them, haven't had them to the track yet. The lug nuts go on, but there's only a few threads holding them on. The stud doesn't even go the whole way through the threaded part of the lugnut on most of em, and on the ones that it does, still, the last little bit of the stud isn't threaded anyway. Aren't you supposed to have 1 full thread extending past the threads of the lugnut or somethin along those lines? I really doubt it's gonna pass tech or (more importantly) be safe. Or are they fine the way they are? If I need longer ones, what size do I need? And do I have to order them from summit/jegs/whoever or would autozone or whoever have em? And are longer studs still gonna work right with the ugly stock 3-spoke "swirl" type wheels and center caps?

NHRA tech requires that the lug engage the threads over "one diameter, within the hex portion of the nut." What that means is you need to have 12mm (1/2") of thread engagement in the hex portion - you can't count the conical portion, or the "shank" on the Weld long-shank style lugs. That also means that if the hex portion of the lugs is more than 12mm long, the studs do not need to be "out" of the lugs. They can end inside the lug, as long as there is 12mm of thread engagement.

hmm...I took another look, and the studs go to the same point on the lugnut with the factory wheels too

I dunno if all f-body wheels are like this, but the lugnuts on the 3 spoke swirl wheels have threads on the outside too (are these what are referred to as "duplex" lugnuts?). Anyway, the outer threaded portion is actually a larger diameter than the hex part, so theoretically stronger...the tapered part of the nut is only a very tiny part of its length. And actually, the hex part of the nut is basically unthreaded...the threads stop at just about the same spot as the outside threads.

So either:
A) I'll be fine running these, they'll pass tech, and I'll live happily ever after
or:
B) the factory wheels are also illegal with stock studs

The threads on the outside you refer to, I assume are the threads that hold the plastic lugnut covers on???? If so, those are not "duplex". Duplex means the lugnuts are double the normal length, to accept longer studs. With 3" x 1/2 studs on the rear (Strange 12-bolt, 1/2" thread-in studs), the end of the stud stick out of the Weld long shank lug nuts more than 1/4". When I put my 17x11 ZR1 street wheels on, there was no way to get the closed lugs on the longer studs, so I bought a set of the 1/2" "Duplex" closed end acorns. They still were not long enough to fit on the 3" studs, so I drilled the ends of the Duplex nuts and threaded the entire length. Now they fit on the 3" studs, with just about 1/16" sticking out the ends... not too ugly with the street wheel.

Unfortunately, they do not make the Duplex lugnuts in 12mm, so on the front, I had to drill and tap the closed lugnuts that came with the AFS replicas, and they look like crap.

Rear wheels, with duplex lugs

Front wheels with AFS acorns.... ugghhhhhh
