I just put together an LT1 w/ CC306 and CC987 springs for $200
Of course I rebuilt the rest of the motor myself as well casting a few more $$ but I did most everything on my own for CHEAP.
Found a good deal from a fella on here. Then I ported and polished my heads on my own. You can run with the stock converter no problem. I'm doing it and haven't had a single stall or anything. Your just not going to utilize the cam's power band as well as possible.
Now I'm tryin to tune for the cam. Unfortunately I'm experiencing some knock at higher RPM. After first installing the cam no knock. Worked like a charm. However, I have some knock now. Think it might be from the crappy *** stock lifters.
My two cents is to get some better lifters. I don't believe the stock ones have the pressure to hold up to the heavy springs a CC306 requires.
Good luck!
By the way..... YES it has PHENOMINAL power. Off the line it lopes and starts going gradually accelerating, once you hit 40-50 miles per hour (while accellerating in the middle of a gear) it lights the tires up bigtime! Way cool. Hinse getting a higher stall.

Re: CC306 etc.
CC 305 is ur best bet for keeping ur streetablity...Taken from the LT4 Hot cam thread...
... I did a cam swap last summer and decided to get the comp cams cc 305 cam, which is .510/.510 lift, 220/230 duration with a 114 LSA and a 1500-5500 power band, which i really noticed it more around 1800, but Damn it really pulled throughout the powerband!!!!.Its an Awesome streetable yet "mildly" radical (if that mmakes anysense at all) cam. Put some comp 1.6 RR and your lift jumps to like a .544/.544 lift!!!!!! But u will eventually want to get a computer tune to reap the full benefits of a valve train upgrade! as far as valve springs, combination motorsports used to sell a set of these springs (they may have been LT1 specific i can't remember) that are good up to a .600 lift and they were only like $99! But if ur really serious about doing this i would also invest in a nice porting job on ur heads and intake again to reap the full benefits of an LT1 cam swap!!

Re: CC306 etc.
I don't know who is so damn scared of the cc306 it is 100% streetable. I have one and it works perfect. Don't listen to what the adds say and everybody else who hasn't tried one.
If you want more low end power go with cc305 a hot cam or what ever. If you want more top end power go with cc306 it pulls hard up to 6500. And that's that.
W/ Stock tune, manifolds, stall, etc..... just cam, P&P, springs. I get 23mpg highway not bad for streetability.
