Why are those your 2 choices, emissions? They really aren't much of a cam for a 383 application, why not go with something bigger like a 306 or the XE 230/236?

No kidding, I will tell you now, if you go with one of those cams because you want driveabilty or something like that , you will be kicking yourself the first time a turboed import blows your doors off on the top end.

Either of those cams in a 383 is like a stock cam in a 350. so go bigger at least 230+ duration@ 50 and 560+lift and you won't regret it. Remember that the more cubes you have the more cam you can get away with and be streetable. I am running a 230-240@50 cam in my 350 Lt1.

While I do agree that bigger cam is better with a 383, it really depends on how well the heads flow to get the most out out a bigger cam. If you plan to do some good flowing heads too...go bigger.

I can tell you I ran 12.5x @ 112 with a cc305 and stock mildly ported and matched heads with shorty headers, stock cat, and stock wieght... if that helps you any. Not super numbers for a 383 but respectable for that particular setup which passed emissions easily and drove like stock. Between those 2 cams do the cc305.

I agree with the others, those cams are just to small for a 383. if you have all those cubes why not put them to good use with a bigger cam. the cc306 would be a good choice.

Other than the fact that im 16 and am going to be paying for gas and have a expensive girlfriend I would love to get a bigger cam. BTW my heads have a 5-angle valve job and the ports are smoothed. I already have a rocketship for a 16 year old and i still need to have SOME gas mileage. Dosnt a bigger cam than say a cc306 take a substantial ammount of vaccum? Thanks, Brian Kaiser

at least go with a cc306, or even bigger. Of course, if you have a stroker motor, I can't believe you haven't done the cam swap already.

Choose a cam based on the headflow, not because that's what seems right or what everyone else is running.

And get rid of the expensive girlfriend. You don't need that **** when you're 16. Tell her if she wants to play spoiled princess to hit daddy up for some money.

I'm not sure about that one...My "little" CC305 with a stock bottom end LT1 runs 12.0 @ 112 MPH.

Frank
And Frank you are not the norm

(but your car does run good)

i had the CC305 in my 93 T/A and my best off the bottle was a 12.3 @ 112, I had homeported heads, 3000 stall, 3.73 rear gear, and full exhaust (hooker Lts etc)

The cam ran nicely and I liked it so I put a simular cam in my 383 (in my 97)to start with (XE 224/230) the car had plenty of torque, and until I raced a respectable car I thought it was head and shoulders above my 93. I would allways get a good lead then lose it aftewards, if we had been racing 1/8 mile I probably would have nevr lost, but after that it felt like it was freewheeling as the LS1s and such came by me. Changing cams took car of that.
