...cause water in intake?
The air filter on the ss is sitting on top of the intake where it works off the hood like ram air. There is the grill in the hood then it's just an open filter right? Well in the rain isn't water going to run up the hood and onto the filter while driving down the road? Eventually wouldn't the filter get saturated and water start going into the intake? Just a thought because I'm looking into buying one for my car.

Does anybody know what the black dot on the envelope in the LT1 Tech screen is for it's just on my envelope.

It should drain somewhere. GM wouldn't have put it on there if they didn't test it in the elements first. Imagine buying a SS new in 96-97 on a rainy day and killing it before you got it home.

yea in my opinion thats why its better for a filter to pick up from under neath and not from on top of meaning
- - - - - - - - <--- air filter
^ air ^ air ^
___water___
,`.',`.'.`,' Rain
\/ air \/ air \/
- - - - - - - - - <---- air filter
___water___
in the second example water would stay in the filter... in the first example the water would drip free of the filter.
but thats why its covered up... also i dont understand why would they put the intake on top of the engine when the simple idea of convection makes it a hai, a lame pricipal of forced induction doesnt apply when the angles of wind are not present
ohh well there should be a gaurd so the water doesnt go in the hood but if the drainage around ur city is as good as these LA basins.... be careful the gutter water doesnt come over the hood, cause it'll probably drown ur car and it probably wont start again.

Does the water then just sit in the bottom of the tube or what? does it drain or forced to just evaporate.

on my ws6 the water is separated by the baffles before reaching the filter area, then there are 4 drain holes where is drains, then falls into the radiator area. you might find this helpfull:

UHm, what is all your guys problems...
Both the SS and WS6 hoods come from the factory with rain baffles that are molded in to them. They then have drain holes to allow the water to get out around the air intake. On the WS-6 it drains just infront of the airbox.
Bad design/good design with the air filter on top... well, seeing they made ALL the LS1 cars almost identical to the LT1 WS6 setup, kinda tells you sonething...
The "bad" design on the SS setup is the piping losses for the 360* bend the air has to take as well as the filter box sitting directly ontop of the intake, thus getting "heat-soaked"...
I'd be 1000000000* more worried about the Opti getting soaked then my K&N getting a little wet from some rain...

The hood water baffles work fine just the way they are installed.

but yea, if i had one of those intakes id be worried around the base of the mt baldy here in cali... the waves of water get pretty big... big enough to go over the hood of my truck, but if that went into the ram air hole it would kill ur car. would it not?

i would think in that situation the air intake would be less of a worry than the distributor. sounds like a boat would be more practical transportation in that area.
