Has anyone ever used or heard a Spin Tech cat back. I found out that they do make one and I have heard the Spin Tech in the Mufflex exhuast and it sounds pretty good. Just thought I would throw a new cat back into the loop....

Okay if you have the money to waste which I'm sure not many of us have, buy one and be a sucker. Besides the Borla which so many people like sounds like a can full of BB's. And as for flowmaster, if I hear another played out flow I am going to puke. Every car owner that doesn't know jack **** about his car says the first thing he or she is going to do is put some flows. Like they are some kind of magical power adder or something, they sound like garbage and do absolutely nothing.

I have the best of all worlds - I got a cutout and some chrome hooker tips. I got looks, I got sound, and I got power. All for a whopping 35 bucks plus installation. Whoever pays more than 300 for a new catback is a SUCKER. There are better performaing exhaust systems I will give you that, but find a better performing exhaust system than mine for 50 or 60 bucks. I'll fax you a cookie.
I have to admit, I kind of agree with this guy. Any new stainless steel cat-back for over $300 is a rip-off. Unfortunately, the LM is the only one under that price. And even that is a big rip-off since it is just a straight-pipe set-up which any muffler shop could make you for half the cost. Your basically paying for different tips since most aftermarket cat-backs flow similar. Your $$$ though.

And topics like these are useless IMO. Everyone likes something different. You'll only know what sounds the best until you actually hear them in person. Nonetheless, here is my .02 on what I've heard in person on stock LT1's.

Flowmaster sounds good, but it also sounds very "generic." You sound like every other SBC or truck on the road with this exhaust.

Borla may sound different, but that's why I like it. It has a unique tone that does not sound like every other 350 or pick-up around town. I also love the exotic looking tips.

SLP LM sounds exactly like what it is. An exhaust with no muffler. Very unrefined and truckish sounding. A cheap $30 cutout will acheive the same sound.

SLP 2OTL is my favorite sounding cat-back on an LT1. Great overall tone that is not quiet nor loud(just right). And the single-side exit is very unique.

Thanks for the support there 2000LS1Z28... You are correct as well, if you exclude cost, some catbacks have nicer looking tips than others... "Which one is best topics" really get nowhere because there is always going to be somebody supporting something else...

Here's my advice - Whatever route you do end up taking, make sure you get a cutout with it if you end up not liking the sound, you can just uncap it and put a smile on your face.

I've got some budies with the LM and hookers...TOO LOUD. Yes they all had headers. It all depends what you want. There is no reason to go back and forth with what you like. The fact is we all like different sounds and tastes.

I've had the Flowmasters and hated them... too loud. I've opted for the SLP 2OTL, deep, low and not too loud. Yes I like the dual look and would have gotten Borla but tooo much $$$$.

The fact is our cars are not ture dual setups and 2OTL seem to have the best design flow. In one way out the other with no splits in a fake dual look. If I want it louder I'll get a cut out.

They all sound pretty good to me. I have personally had a flowtech afterburner, a flowmaster w/cutout and currently a Loudmouth. The flowtech wasn't loud enough, the flowmaster was louder but I really didn't care for the sound as the RPM's settled back down after revving the motor. Once I added the cutout it sounded good except for a hideous undertone while idling or low rpm coast (it sounded like a a tuba was plugged into the exhaust system and ever few seconds it would make a sound similar to a fog horn). All things considered I chose the Loudmouth for my current exhaust system and am pretty satisfied but had I had the money for it I would have got either the GMMG or Borla.

Im with 2000LS1Z28 on this one.....

SLP 2OTL sounds PERFECT.

I think most people will agree with this tho:
Get yourself a cheap catback, and a cutout. You'll have good sound through the muffler, good flow with the cutout open, and good looks as oppossed to the stock exhaust tips.

I have the flowmaster setup, and had hooker before (very nice)

YOU have to pick one based on sound! They will all flow the same when the cutout is open! Open cutouts are very loud inside the car and grow tiresome very quickly!

Someone fax me a cookie!?

There are folks throwing away thier Flowbees for Hooker and Borlas, and picking up .2 in the quarter right off the bat.

buy a cutout and some exhaust tips and get some Hooker shorty headers, all that should be achievable for right around $500

well i dont know why but i have had ALL 3 SLP exhaust systems on my car

first was the LM. decent sounding but got hella resonance on the highway. so i added headers/no cat to it and man did that system get ugly so i had to ditch the LM.

so then i got the Dual/Dual that SLP installs on newer SS's. it looked good, was very heavy because the muffler is fairly large. the sound with headers and no cat was nice. it has a very deep rumble to it but just wasnt quite loud enough. FWIW i had a cut-out with that system and when i uncapped the thing... it sounded EXACTLY like the LM. so for $30 you can have a LM on any system. to add... dual/dual on a stock car might not even make a sound.

lastly i ended up with 2OTL and am quite happy with this one. it sounds great cruising around and isnt bad on the highway. originally i want all the fond of the one side exhaust design but hell it sounds so good i dont even care

The single exhaust that came on the LT1 SS's, is that the same as the 20TL SLP that you can buy as aftermarket? I was reading the Dec 95 issue of Car and Driver where they did a Muscular Triathlon with an SS, WS6, and Cobra. The SS had the single exhaust that looked like the 20TL, and Car and Driver commented on how it was louder than the WS6.
