Carsound cats, POOR QUALITY!
I had a custom y-pipe fabbed up and works awesome.
The only problem is that I wish I didn't get CARSOUND cats. I have blown out (not clogged) the honeycomb on both the left and right cats. The passenger side went within 2 weeks and the drivers side within a week after that. My car is runs mint and I know its not my car. The shop I had the work done at says its my car. Its fairly obvious that the shell around the inside is disintegrating; comes out as powder when we pulled the cats.
I'm thinking that this shop used a low CID cat converter. Its the only possible reason.
Any of you guys had the same problem?
Re: Carsound cats, POOR QUALITY!
That is a possibility. If this happens again, I'm going to pull them get my money back and run an ORY.
What part number cats did you use? I want to check with the shop to see which ones they used. There are 2 2.5" carsounds on the y-pipe if that effects anything. Could the velocity from my 3" outlet from my headers reduced to 2.5" tubing.

Re: Carsound cats, POOR QUALITY!
Seems weird. I have a single 3" Carsound cat, and it sees more velocity than either of your 2.5" cats, since it's after the Y-pipe, and I've had no problems. Looks brand new. I just had it off a couple of days ago after about 4000 miles, and the inside looked great.

Do you think I just got a bad batch or what?
I noticed that the y at the collector is really close to my tunnel brace, could that be vibrating and break loose the honeycomb inside the cat?
What other possibilities could cause this?
