Car won't start, PCM Dead??
Car won't start, PCM Dead??
ok tonight was my first night datalogging with Freescan and my mastach cable. I did three runs at the track over a 3 hour time span... (track is packed) and i left the cable plugged in laptop on and Freescan running inbetween runs. when leaving the track i turned the laptop off but left it pluged in the ALDL. i stopped for gas and when i got back on the interstate my Parking brake, ABS Inop, and LOW TRACTION light came on and went off. i suspected the mastach cable so i reached down and pulled the connectors out. i stopped at my friends house and stayed for a hour or so... when i went to leave my car would not turn over. all the dash lights came up but the fuel pump didnt start. on the second try i noticed smoke on the pass. side coming from under the hood. i ran out to smell something like superglue from my PCM area. the PCM was HOT to the touch. i called my friend up and he let my try the PCM in his 94 camaro auto ( mine is the same year auto but a T/A) and that also didnt work. i reset the fuses in the fuse box. and no help either. I really........... hate wiring gremlins
Re: Car won't start, PCM Dead??
yes, unplug them all, turn the key on, and check for 10.5+ volts on every power circuit with a voltmeter and to check the ground circuits......use a ohmmeter, set it to 200 ohms, and put the negative terminal lead to battery ground and with the other lead, probe each ground circuit. they must show 5.0 ohms or less.
94 is pretty much the same ( it may be exactly the same) but dont qoute me. get a 94 wiring diagram to be on the safe side.

Re: Car won't start, PCM Dead??
is it possible my mastach cable caused this?? i did pull the cable leads out when driving down the road maybe that shorted the circuit in the PCM, i still dont understand why a new working PCM doesnt work
Re: Car won't start, PCM Dead??
i doubt it. with your pcm hooked up, have you tried scanning it? does it communicate with your scan tool? If it doesnt communicate with your PCM or a known good PCM, then more likely you have an open power or ground circuit to the PCM. Or an open ALDL data circuit.
