Car stalling out after 10-30 minutes of driving
Starting a few weeks ago my 1993 Camaro Z28 has begun to stall out more and more frequently. Usually after 10-30 minutes of driving. It seems to happen sooner on hot days. What will happen is the engine will just shut off without warning like the key has been turned off. It will usually start back up right away and run fine. I replaced the ICM, and it didn't help. Now I think its the Optispark again.
In addition to stalling, sometimes it will be like I've hit a limiter and rpms will just shoot back down. Usually when i'm getting on it. Like hitting 4k and immediately bouncing way down. Today it backfired for the first time and is running like crap. Jacked the car up and pulled off my plug wires to take a look. On one of my wires the metal is browm/burned a bit on the inside. The matching metal connector on the opti is discolored compared to the others.
I replaced my optispark last year, but it almost has to be the opti again, doesn't it? I know the bad wire wouldn't have caused the stalling, but could a hot opti randomly stall like that? I'm pretty sure today when my car backfired it was the opti burning out that plug wire.
Probably unrelated, but my temp gauge went out a month or two prior to this. I've been driving without a working gauge, but I'm pretty sure its never overheated, never had coolant overflowing.
