car poped and died and code p1371 quick question about the opti

I guees my opti crapped out -- sounds like similar symptoms that others had when their opti went south -- now my question is what part do I need to fix it --- O'Reillys said it comes in 2 pieces cap and rotor, and the opti part -- whatever should I get both parts or one or the other

Get a whole brand new GM unit from Jason or Dal. You will be a lot happier. ~$200 since you have a vented opti.

Is that $250 for cap, rotor and base section? Probably rebuilt (I don't know that for sure). All the same? I doubt it.

The GM one is brand new, complete and ready to bolt on.

Your call. Many people have tried the aftermarket opti stuff and ended up spending twice as much when they got the GM unit because the other did not hold up. Some have had good luck, too.

The pulley and the hub are two pieces. You only need to remove the pulley. If it won't come of with a little persuasion, you can use a puller to remove it. Put the mark on the hub at 12 o'clock and you will have room to remove the opti.

You might want to check out this site, too.

Test your coil wire with a meter to be sure it is good and be sure you have the plug wires on correctly . You will hear a couple of clicks when the plug and coil wires are inserted all the way into the optispark terminals.

Could be that you did not get the opti lined up correctly when you installed it or you have plug wires crossed. If you are getting some smoke out of the intake, sounds like at least some plugs are getting fire, just maybe not at the right time.
