Car is jacked up
Ok.. anyone ever have their coolant light come on when their car is cold..then when you turn the car off and back on it goes away? (and both the Radiator and overflow tank are full) My car got really hot yesterday and I pulled over to check the coolant level and then water started spraying out of the overflow tank and smoke coming from under the radiator cap. It sucked all the water out of the radiator. I thought it might just be an air pocket or something but It really bothers me that the coolant light is still coming on when I start the car and the engine is cold. Weird... Anyone got any advice? Thanks guys... hopefully it is something I can fix myself.
Re: Car is jacked up
how hot is you car actually getting? my light comes on everytime i drive my car because the sensor is bad, but i dont overheat or anything. How many miles on the car? Whens the last time you changed the coolant? Whens the last time the t-stat was replaced? Last time readiator cap was replaced?
Re: Car is jacked up
Do you know why it sucked all the water out of the radiator?
Also, check the (weep hole) bottom of the waterpump to see if it is leaking. If that is fine as well, just replace the sensor or you can disconnect the connector and it will never come on again.

Re: Car is jacked up
well honestly in your case it sounds like the radiator cap or tstat wont help. But one thing to check is the radiator. Somehow my radiator got a hole punched in it and it would only leak when i was driving(under pressure). Check the sides of the radiator as they are made of plastic. Also check inside the car on the passeneger floor. Feel under the glovebox around the carpet and see if its wet. The heater core could have went. Finally is there white smoke coming out of the exhaust? Is the oil milky? Could be head gasket failure. My old thunderbird blew a head gasket and it would burn through coolant like it burned through fuel.
good luck

Re: Car is jacked up
And burp the coolant system like i told ya. Just put the key on acc. so it'll turn on your water pump - and open up the bleeder screws. It's only a temp. fix, but it'll keep those heads from having to come back off.
