car is having starter problems help!

i just hit the steering colum/switch... nothing... when i put it to start i see the low trac and brake lights go off, and when i let go from start they go on again so the switch knows i'm turning it..
sometimes i hear a 'click' when i put it the key on 'on' and now i dont hear that... anything to do with it?

Mine is an auto, so its not the clutch safety in my case, and i do always hear an audible relay click. But no starter cranking
Why is it all of a sudden were all having the same problem... no one else had this before and found a fix
It deffinatly sounds like a common problem. Im gonna do some more searching on a couple websites. Im new to 4th gen Fbodies in particular so anyone more familiar with a couple good sites should try lookin around too. Its a common problem it seems, so theres probably a common solution that works right? Now we just gotta find it

If you hear a click, the starter solenoid is engaging and either is not passing current or the starter isn't working. One other possibility is battery cables/connections. Get someone to listen to the battery as you turn the switch. A sizzling sound means a bad connection. Battery cables can get "cancer" and go bad on the inside-that is fairly common. If you whack the side of the starter with a hammer and then it works, then it is the starter that is bad.

Re: car is having starter problems help!
Mine's having this problem too...
didn't start until I turned the key on and off 5-10 times... worked for the rest of the day...
next day, wouldn't start at all.. (even after 30 attempts)
Had a tech over, tech started testing the wires in the engine compartment.. while I tried turning it on and off... and suddenly it worked
he couldn't really continue testing...
Needless to say, I'm sure I still have the problem, and it will strike when I'm in a very inconvenient place...
sooo... any updates? Anybody cure theirs???

Just to let everyone know, you CAN replace the solenoid.

A local shop to me that does internet business. They're very knowledgeable, just give them a call. My new solenoid cost $32.
