Canton 242T Oil Pan Questions

I'm installing this pan on Friday and have a question. I'm going to remove the factory windage tray due to the Canton pan having one. Am I going to be able to use the stock longer main cap bolts that hold the factory windage tray? Or are they going to hit?

Thanks,

Rob

I would just hold the pan up there and see if it hits or take some measurements. If there is no need to pull those cap bolts, then dont.

Can you post some pics of that pan especially in the sump area?

What does the pickup look like? Are you using a Canton part.

I remember on mine that I had a problem with the slayed 4-bolt caps hitting in a couple of spots, but I don't recall about the main cap bolts. I have pics somewhere, I'll try to find them. I didn't use the stock cap bolts, but it seems there was plenty of room except for the splayed caps themselves. I'll try to dig up those pics, I'll post 'em if I find them.

There have been some recent posts of guys claiming thet their aftermarket oil pans hit the steering rack.

If you dont mind, please measure the distance between your current pan and the new Canton one and post the findins up if its not too big a deal.

I will be watching this thread all weekend.

I heard this was a problem with the early Cantons, but they fixed that issue. I'm running one and it fits perfect with my stock rack.

I used the same setup and we somewhat pressed in the pickup, but with it bolted to the pump, it did not seem like there was any need at all to weld it.

As for the main cap bolts... wish I could help, but we used ARP.

The pickup bolted on, and I used Loctite to make sure it stayed there.
Personally, when I went Canton, I spent the extra coinage to go ARP. No brainer.
Also, the oil dipstick did not fit well, and I had to make several trial runs to get it over my splayed mains.
And the pan itself fit like crud. Warped and difficult to fit. Had to purchase longer end bolts to get it going, and then work from there. Real PITA.

Well I got the pan on, it slid right in. But it is leaking from the rear of the pan, by the rear main seal. It seemed like the gasket did not want to fit right and I thought it would just "squish" into place. Off comes the pan.

The pan cleared my steering just fine.

A little creative editing, and TaaaDaaa!

Sorry, couldn't resist. For some reason I was reading your post and those words just sorta stood out.

Back to the pan, what do you mean by the gasket didn't seem to fit? Are you using the factory type molded gasket? And also, was there a gap near the mid point, or was it leaking by the corners?

Any chance you are using the blue Fel-Pro gasket?
