Sorry, couldn't resist. For some reason I was reading your post and those words just sorta stood out.

Back to the pan, what do you mean by the gasket didn't seem to fit? Are you using the factory type molded gasket? And also, was there a gap near the mid point, or was it leaking by the corners?
lol

Anywho, I'm not sure where it's exactly leaking back there. When I had the gasket on the pan for a test fit, it seemed like rear part of the gasket didn't want to fit the "half moon" worth a crap. My buddy said he has seen this happen before and the actual pan might need some tweaking. I am using the one piece felpro gasket, but it is not blue, it's grey.

On a side note, I went for a test drive before I knew it was leaking and my oil pressure was alot higher than before. I never got on it because I forgot to put the nut back on my trans mount and it was banging. Hot idle is 20-25 psi at 750 RPMS where it was 15 before, cruising at 55, my pressure was around 55 PSI where it was around 40 before.

I will have the pan off this Friday and hopefully will get the leak/gasket problem fixed.

I have the same pan on my 383ci FI (97ss 383-D1 MM6). I used some permatex grey in the corners front and back. Also, used a 1/4-20 unc button head screws to load the pan since they had a larger head collar (except for the four corner studs). Pan fits tight @ the rack, but is OK since I run a pro-thane motor mount which is almost solid. I did not weld the pump oil pick-up, and, did as others with red lock-tite on a single bolt.

I also had trouble with the dip-stick, and built my own since there is limited clearance w/ splayed brg caps.

I like the pan and had no problems with crank throw interfearance with the windage tray.

So you still dont know if the pan fixed the pressure drop at high RPM yet. I know your itching to find out but it sounds like you wont know till the weekend.

And now your pressures are 10 PSI higher with the new pan. I wonder how the Hell that happened? I cant see any pan causing a PSI increase. If you are using the same pump, it must be the pickup.

Maybe your old pan/pickup relationship was too close which could restrict the flow to the pump. That's the only thing I can think of to explain the increased pressure now, assuming the pump and pickup are the same.

i am not happy with my 242-T pan. for $300 i expected it to not lose oil pressure when taking turns like a madman. i should have used the stock pan and saved the 300 for the strip clubs. if i take a turn really hard, oil pressure can go as far as 0, and then bounce back up. Not good.

Considering the amount of baffling and the side sumps in that pan it's hard to believe you could run into oil starvation with it. I've heard all the same complaints about them everybody has (mostly fitment issues and cost) but I've never heard anybody say it wasn't doing the job it was designed for. You must be cornering like a maniac, with some hellacious G's

Their must of been something up with my old pickup. We measured it twice when we installed it over the winter, so i'm not too sure how that could of been off. It was a $6.99 Melling pickup that I bought from O'Reilly's.

How many quarts of oil do you guys run with the 242T pan?

I am using the oreillys Melling pickup too. Thats nuts that the pickup could boost pressure 10#. Just wow.

Most guys run 5-5.5 Quarts in that pan. Are you running the same brand and viscosity oil?

I run no more than 6 quarts or pressure drops on hard acceleration.

Well i corner sometimes to the point where all 4 tires are sliding and you have to jerk the wheel left and right to straighten it out. But thats beside the point, the sales guy said it could handle it and it clearly cant

May I ask why you did not use the pickup that is made for this aftermarket pan? I loctited the bolt, which I feel is sufficient.
My gasket is also blue, not sure what the grey gasket is.

OP,
When are you going to be able to bang on it to see if the pressure drop issue is fixed?

The melling pickup was used with the stock pan, I have the canton pickup made for the canton pan.
