Re: cant run over 120 mph 97 Z28

he said it does it in 5th too, 5th should be good with 3.42's up to about 150. have you noticed a specific rpm it does it at? i'm thinking since 6th is a steep ratio, maybe it's dropping it far enough below the rpm that it will still pull. slowly drive thru the whole rpm band in about 2nd gear, see if it stumbles any. almost sounds like an ignition problem.

He stated 3.73's. Both 5 and 6th are overdrive....

Re: cant run over 120 mph 97 Z28

In 4th gear, with the 3.73's it would hit the stock 5,805RPM rev limiter at 119MPH. In 5th gear it should reach maximum drag limited top speed of about 155MPH.

Check the build code tag for RPO "QLC" which would indicate it left the factory with the Z-rated tires, and they have the MPH limiter programmed as "255".

Do you really have a 235/40-17 tire on the front? That's about 1.2" smaller diameter than it should be.

there is no rev limiter. I can run the rpms up to 6500 and it doesnt act stupid.
I installed a new opti spark harness on it and it still does it. When i bought the car the owner said that the motor has been rebuilt. My cuz builds lt1 and he cant figure it out either.

If there is no rev limiter, the programming is not stock.
