It can't hurt. I upgraded my signature just now and as you can see I've got one. I don't get and knock readings at all.

When stock, I would chirp 2nd pretty hard, but no extended spinning. The fun thing now with the mods I have, is to be driving in 1st gear and hammer the throttle and just start spinning the tires from a roll. I love the TQ. That's with my 275/40-17 GS-D3 tires too.

my '94 Z28(bone stock, with 192XXX miles nonetheless!!) will chirp the tires in second about half of the time, depends on the road. i have some michelin xgt z4s though so i bet they help keep them from spinning as well.

 

Just wondering, if he is planning on buying this car why should it matter if it will chirp 2nd or not? That isn't really something I look for when buying a car. Hell, I can get a honda 4 cyl with a 5 speed to chirp 2nd.

BTW, I can sometimes leave black marks when going into 2nd. I have a video clip of some black marks after a race and I had about 15-20 ft black marks in 1st and then there were some well defined marks about 5-6 foot long from 2nd gear.

 

my car has 158k miles on it, small mods in sig. im not a quick shifter by any means yet, only had the car for about a month. i get a small chirp in 2nd. i havent even done a burnout in it yet so i dont know if i could smoke 2nd or not.

 

Are sure about that I dont even think the new C6's pull that hard?

 

now i have 95z28 wiil burn all the way through 1 and get sideways in 2nd with 2.73 gears mostly all stock with a few boltons .and no coldair induction yet.so if your manual 6sp wont burn 2nd thats sad .unless dr are being used ..

 

Were you timing it when you were smoking the tires? If so, mine does it in about 2 seconds.

And it is really about the tires, harder compound tires will just roast and roast, like the Kumho 712's.
Here is an example, my brothers 96 Trans Am bolt on M6 would roast 1st thru 3rd and chirp 4th with the Kumhos, 275/40/17 (tires had about 500 miles on them). With the BFG KDW in the same size, it would roast 1st, and chirp 2nd and maybe chirp 3rd. The KDW hooked so much better that the car just accelerated much faster.

 

i bought my car with bald potenzas on it and would kick it sideways goin into third and the 1-2 shift...forget it i never had a dream of traction...ditched em for some brand new yokohama avids and i cant even think about chirping third anymore...13.805@101.53 still cant chirp third...only a little chirp in second...sometimes doesnt even do that

 

I can get my 94 s10 5 speed with 215k miles,original clutch and 31'' tires to chirp second. With the mods I have, second gear can become two really long blackys and alot of smoke. I dont see what the point of this thread was really? It turned into a lt4 KM questions answer, and then how much we can spin our tires? Oh well!

 

Well, since its an M6 it should have 3.42's gearing so yea it should atleast bark em off. If that's all ur getting is an itty bitty chirp then its 3 things. 1 - you can't drive, 2 - you have damn good tires, or 3 - something is wrong. I have an A4 with 3.73's and my *** cuts loose when it shifts into second at WOT. If i do a 15mph roll and slam it I squeels, hops through first, barks off into second then goes

all i have is a K&N + magnaflow muffler (not exhaust) and a B&M short throw

i can get a decent amount of tread at the 1/4 mile track shifting into 2nd and i can chirp third without trying too hard

i like to think that i shift a lot faster than the average joe out there though
