Yes out of the box you can make your LT1 intake work..however if you do ANY porting to the AFRs you will have issues. Reason I know is Im looking at a set of AFRs also, just bought Edelbrocks LT4 intake yesterday.

Here is Lloyd Elliots response to that exact question I had, great info:

"The AFR 195 heads that I have seen will work with an LT1 intake. Once you hand port the AFR 195's and raise the port at the gasket area, you will need an LT4 intake. I would double check that and make sure."

"LT1 and LT4 intakes are the same from the TB holes through the plenum and down the runner until you get to the gasket area. The LT4 is taller at the gasket are so it will seal off on the taller ports. The LT1 intakes do not have this extra material and will not seal off on the LT4 size ports."

"This is true for GM and Edelbrock LT4/LT1 intakes. There is no "flow" difference, the only difference is in what heads they will seal off on."

thanks for info. The way I read on the edelbrock is that both of their intakes would fit lt1 and with minor mods the lt4 head. I was going to go with that edelbrock one but on snap buy i bought a new lt1 on ebay which i thought i could have ported which might have been better than the edelbrock for similar price.

FWIW, my engine has the stock heads and intake ported by Golen's. N/A it put down 450 HP on the engine dyno. It is a 383, but cammed so as to pass (barely) California SMOG ****'s requirements.

If I was not worried about SMOG, they probably could have upped the horsepower with a bigger cam.

I think that is pretty good flow from a set of stock ported components.
