Can I delete??/Idle Issues
Can I delete??/Idle Issues
Not sure if my signature is posted so here is update. I have done the following.
1996, LT1, 6pd manual
New rebuild
CC503 Cam
Stock TB, Injectors, lifters and pushrods.
Longtube pacesetter headers.
1. took off smog pump and plugged all holes
2. Removed o2 sensors on rear and tuned out
3. Installed new front o2 sensors on front at the collectors in hole provided by pacesetter.
4. Installed true duals, no X pipe with magna flow exhaust.
5. New opti, vent type and vaccum's are hooked up with check/back pressure valves. ( little blue looking things that look like a kids top)
6. Installed 160 degree thermo stat
7. Replaced ALL vacuum lines, should have no leaks with new hoses.
I have one question about deleting some stuff and one issue.
1. Can I delete the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve and plug lines?
2. Can I delete the other solenoid thing(couldn't find the name but it sits next to the EVAP purge sonenoid and is connected to it. It's number 11 on shoe boxes site labled EVAP exploaded view and hooks to fuel bundle on driver side.
3. Can I delete the vacuum hoses on opti and plug off?
Issue: First off I ran the car a few days without front 02 sensors and havent had the car tuned after we built the engine.
The idle was fine for a couple of days but now it's jacked. Here's what it's doing. The car is jerking really bad rpm was ranging from 800 to 1300 and coming to a stop you could put it in neutrual and rpm would stay at 2000 until you come to a stop.
I followed shoe boxes instructions on resetting IAC, it seemed help somewhat but still not right. Should I get the car tuned first and see if that fixes things or what?
Do you have any info I can pass to my tuner that would be helpful?

Re: Can I delete??/Idle Issues
Why would you want to get rid of the opti vac lines? The whole reason behind them is to keep gases and moisture from building up in the opti and fouling the sensor or causing other damage.
Re: Can I delete??/Idle Issues
Why do you want to delete the vent and vacuum lines from the Opti? The vent system removes ozone that causes the internals to corrode. It would not improve performance in any way, and will probably shorten the life of the Opti.
The EVAP system recovers fuel vapor, so there's a slight gain in fuel economy. And it eliminates the fuel stink at the rear of the car that will be present after you delete the EVAP system. Again, no performance gain.
The "other solenoid thing" is the vacuum detector that is part of the OBD-II diagnostic system for the EVAP system. If you delete it, you will have to have the diagnostic programmed out of the PCM.

Re: Can I delete??/Idle Issues
I know it needs to be tuned, my concern was whatever that is causing the idle issues would make the tune pointless. If the iac was bad would it still make sense to get the car tuned before you get the iac fixed?
Injuneer, what are your thoughts on this and whats your guess on the idle issue.

Re: Can I delete??/Idle Issues
I'm getting it tuned monday but it ran fine for a few days, so I'm thinking it's a seperate issue. That is not to say I don't need a tune but it was fine for a few days. The idle problem all started the day we had heavy rain and my son said he ran through a good size puddles. If the opti got wet would that jack everything up? If so what do we do? Also after the idle issue we replaced some vacuum hoses off of the vacuum detector and it had quit a bit of water/ condensation inside if the solenoid. What would cause that????
