Camshaft Question

I am going to be swapping out my cam for a performance one, its a 93 lt1 engine. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions to what work would with no piston to valve issues. And I don't want to have to adjust my idle. Im not building a race motor I just want some more street performance.

Start with the bolt-ons, it's all I have and run 12.8x at 3900#.

Re: Camshaft Question

What is is saying is if everything else is stock you will have a greater benefit with bolt ons. This includes stuff like air intake, exhaust, suspension etc

Re: Camshaft Question

When you say flowmaster exhaust do you mean the cat back exhaust or just the muffler. What I would do first is a full exhaust like some LT headers with a y pipe and a 3" exhaust all the way back. Is your car a A4 or M6?

Re: Camshaft Question

Its just the 80 series muffler on stock pipe, so not really a full exhaust then. Its an A4

Re: Camshaft Question

You would by far gain more perfromance by going with a set of gears and good stall converter. If you are a 3.23 stock rearend you would be better off going to a 3.73 and if you are a 2.73 a 3.42 will make it feel alot of peppier. A stall converter will also be a huge gain on the street and make it alot more fun to drive. Depending on if you daily drive it or its a weekend car i would atleast put in a 2800rpm converter if it is if not i would put in a 3200-3600 converter. Long tube headers and a good flowings 3" catback would be next on my list then suspension. Untill you have a good platform to work with the cam will not do much of anything for the time and money you are going to put at it.

Re: Camshaft Question

Cam with no bolt-ons will be far less fun to drive than a stock cammed full-bolt-on car.

The highghted sentence tells the whole story. A cam needs a full tune. If you aren't interested in changing as much as the idle, you aren't going to be happy no matter which one you choose.
