Don't be so sure of that

EFI is much more tolerant of big cams than carbs. The CC306 (230/244 @ 50) runs fine on a 350 LT1 with a tune. I have driven solid roller 383 LT1's with 250+ degree intake lobes that ran nice. My race car (Electromotive Tec3 EFI) idles and drives fine with 290 degrees on the intake (though the CR is >14:1 and it's 540ci).

Calling Comp would be a REALLY bad idea. When you call the tech line you get people who look at a computer screen, NOT anybody who has a clue. Comp's rpm ranges are WAY off for the LT1 which leads to recommending the wrong cam with insufficient springs.

Most of the KIDS here have come to understand Comp's tech line is a really bad number to call at least for LT1 advise.

They will recommend something like the XFI 292 cam everyone with a clue will tell you that is over 10 degrees too big on the intake

I know of solid rollers with 300ish duration and nearly an inch of lift running on stock computers with just a tune.

so if i were to stick a 503 cam in my Z with headers and a nice exhaust (corsa 4'') did a R.R. arm swap to 1.6'' i'm gonna see a **** ton of gain is what everyone is saying right? Another question would be is their a nicer cam for the money?

If your patient you can get cams such as the cc503, LT4, LPE211/219 for cheap in the for sale section. Comp wants $300 for that cam. You can get it cheaper elsewhere. I got my brother the CC503 brand new off of this site just never installed for around $200 plus shipping. On average someone tries to sell a CC503 cam on this site about 1-3 times per month. Obviously you know my opinion on what you should get based off of what I got my brother for his car. If you want to go brand new from a distributor I'd go custom from AI or LE or BRE for the most current grinds.

For STOCK heads and stock displacement, for a every day driveable car, you cant beat the CC503.

Now if you have a second vehicle, and can tolerate cam surge, poor idle, failure to ever pass an emissions sniffer test, etc. than there may be better cams out there. However, they will at a minimum require better flowing heads.

The best advice anyone here can give you is this: Put the wallet down. Read this message board for a few months. Develop an end goal and realistic plan. Research EVERYTHING before you buy the first part. Do basic bolt ons while you decide what you ultimately want to do with the car. Start with a Cold Air Intake, Headers, Off Road Y Pipe, Cat Back, Shifter, etc.

i've decided im just going to do minor mods. 1.6'' roller rocker arms, cc503 cam, LT4 knock module, 3.73 gear in the back, y pipes 4" corsa catback throw an extreme dimensions bodykit on it, and give it a nice paint job and have it as a nice car that could keep up with the recent stangs
nothing bothers me more when a mustang passes me knowing it can kick my ***.. it makes me wanna cry. all this should throw me quite near 400 rwhp if im correct. the cam is rated at 340 rwhp by itself (i read it on a forum on some website anyway). i dont wanna spend money like a crazy person. i already have some plugs i don't remember the name, MSD wires, and a new opti I. Everything from summit. just a nice exhaust and some more power will suit me just fine

A CC503 with untouched heads won't get you to 400rwhp. If you have a 6speed you might be able to get close to 350rwhp. My advice to you, get a bigger cam. Buy a cheaper catback (Corsa is so damn expensive) and use the 500 bucks you saved on your exhaust and put that towards a solid valve job and some porting on your stock heads.

Also, those body kits don't look too good on Maro's. you're better off spending that money on some nice rims and tires or maybe even just lowering the car. Our cars looks so good already, no need to RICER them out! I've got a 2.5" cowl hood on mine with black C5Z06 rims on it and it's just in flat black primer. And really, I could care less. It still looks good and I probably won't paint it for a couple more years. My next investment after I order my tranny this week is going to be an FI 355 build

Don't forget headers and a CAI, buy a cheaper catback and you have the money for headers. I wouldn't put in a new opti unless you're sure the old one is bad. If you do put in a new opti, don't forget about new water pump gaskets.

With a CC503, and bolt ons, a 6 speed car could touch 350RWHP... But def not 400 without both (1) better flowing heads, and (2) a longer duration cam (with which comes drive-ability issues such as cam surge)
