Look at some of the Lloyd Elliot packages. These are time tested and proven to churn out some power. Somewhat budget oriented. And don't buy headers, CAI, Rockers, or Heads new unless you have to. You will save a lot of money. CAI and Rockers don't wear out (and if rockers do, good ones are rebuildable for cheap. Heads, get them used if your confident you can verify they are in good shape. If not go straight to LE and see what he can do for you.

LE makes some decent packages. Look up some of the dyno charts from his set ups. Their a little pricey, but he hogs stock heads out as good as anyone, and specs his cams out well. The cars run ... They may not peak out the highest, but the area under the curve is hard to argue with. LE cars run. Their a decent deal, proven combo, and he doesn't cut corners.

Do NOT buy the LT1 > LT4 Conversion kit! This is major high-way robbery. You essentially pay $2500 for heads that barely outflow your stock ones, an intake manifold that doesn't out perform your factory one, and a cam shaft that is OK for a daily driver.

Now the LT4 Hot Cam Kit which is like $400 or whatever, thats a different story. That, with some 918 style beehive springs would make a nice daily driver set up.

Good luck!

You probably already know, but it's kind of hard to tell, but the LT4 Hot Cam is what comes with the LT4 Conversion Kit

i know. i saw that lt4 kit and about crapped myself at the price. its kind of ridiculous though. a new CAI, cam, R.R. arms, headers, and a cat back. thats guestimating about 1200 + in cash all for about a 50 hp gain... thats pretty weak. why do they make stuff so expensive for such little gain? theirs v6's out now that double the stock HP of our LT1's.... makes me sick thinking about it. knowing that that one new ford fusion or whatever with 365 hp v6 can kick my Z's ***. I'm not complaining but why do the people with a need for speed need to drop deep in their pockets for upgrades that were made for 3/4 of the overhead price... lets revolt

It's the Taurus SHO and it is twin-turbocharged with direct injection...it's also about 1000 lbs. heavier than your LT1 car. It is slightly faster (13.7 @103 in the 1/4), but what do you expect? Your LT1 car is 13-17 years old...a lot changes in that time with technology. Hell, a LS1 car would kick the SHO's ***.

Thumbs up

lol that just retained my dignity lol. so im trying to get these heads off my car, i cut the exhaust manifolds with a matabo so i could move them a little bit. the 02 sensors are impossible to take off at the moment. i got all bolts off the driver side head but there is something from behind connection both heads together through like a 3/16 or 1/4 inch metal hose. i tried using a 15mm to get it off the drivers side, but it keeps stripping out on me. i don't wanna break it. any ideas?
also just wanted to tell everyone i just bought an 01 impala with a 3800 (3500$). this is gonna be fun..............
btw sorry for posting all this crap in the wrong sections on lt1 forum

That's the steam tube...I can't remember what size it is. Are you using a 6 pt or 12 pt socket?

When you rebuild it, use an Impala head gasket. Will bump your compression up a hair... It is a thinner head gasket.

And while it is frustrating to see the power of some of the new 4 and 6 cylinder cars, keep in mind cars are getting heavier too with all the electronic bull **** that comes on them... The new Challenger (4100+) weighs MORE than the old one. The new Camaro (3800+) weighs MORE than the old ones. The new Mustang (3500+) weighs MORE than the old ones ...

Keep in mind too that the Mustang's motor doesn't really do **** without Forced Induction or Nitrous, bolt-ons provide little gain for this motor compared to GM's LS series. The Challenger, while quick, is too heavy to really respond extremely well to mods.

While your car, stock, puts out significantly less power - look at the 1/4 mile times/mph for some of the cars. Their faster but not my much. A heads/cam/bolt on LT1 car in good tune will put a hurting on any of these cars when their stock. And LT1 motors respond very well to N20 so make yourself a heads/cam nitroused street car.

A quality nitrous kit, with all the safety bells and whistles, and a new fuel pump, will run you less than $1500, will give you an instant 100-150 RWHP and TQ, and throws a bone stock LT1 car damn near 12's - maybe better with traction.

Is the website called Fantasy Island? If your using a metabo to take parts off your car, you need to post less and read more.

Midsize cams work well in these cars for street use. XE503, GM846, CC305, and Hotcam are all good camshafts. Not to mention Lloyd Elliotts LE1 and LE2 sized cams.

Hahah ... good one.

Bersaglieri - Your Cummins, tell me more about it. I recently got a 99 24V and I am shocked at how much power I gained from a straight pipe, 5" stack, cold air intake, and Bully Dog... It freakin rips for a 7,000+ lbs truck.
