Well, I would hate to waste your time so here's my answer (assuming by "computer friendly" you mean with a stock tune): HOT cam.

Also, I am moving this 'cause it's in the wrong section.

well, that all depends.... if you want to avoid having to tune your computer, the LT4 HOTCAM would be your best choice. and if you don't ever plan on doing any head work then a CC503 would be about the biggest you would want to go. As for the bolt ons you mentioned... if you're doing it one thing at a time as you get the money then the cam needs to be the last thing you do. Without headers and such you'll just choke your engine out

I'd like to second that statement. Even a stock set-up would benefit from a mail order tune.

you can run pretty much any cam you want with a computer. there is no reason why cam size would dictate your induction. one of my freinds has a cam almost .9" lift with fuel injection. 1300 rwhp with fuel injection. unless you are wanting to change or port and polish your heads you should choose a cam that will work well with your stock heads. as bkpliskin said a cc503 works well with stock heads. i also used a cc306 with stock heads. mabey you should tell us what all you plan on doing to the car so we can make a better recomendation.

That's a lot of lift.

That is all.

I am not trying to sound like a dick, but your teacher is a douche. Send him back to the 80's where 5.0 Mustang's were limited in cam selection by their computer...

An LT1 computer is pretty adaptable. You can tune them and dial it in for boost, nitrous, heads, cams, HUGE cams, solid roller cams that just should probably NOT be in a street car, heads/cam/blower cars, turbos, etc. No real need to switch the computer unless your motor swapping it, or building a dedicated race car that will see no street duty.

There is an Impala making something north of 1300hp on the oem computer with a LOT of tuning effort by the owner. Hasn't launched it real well yet but the 150mph trap speeds out of a truely streetable are quite a testament to what CAN be done with stock parts. Guy uses things like stock optis, 4L60E, 8.5" 10-bolt and a whole lot of other stuff most kids assume wont work on a car making one third the power.

Best advise you can still get is don't touch the car till spring and keep reading the whole winter, you are NOWHERE near ready to make good decisions and apparently do not have good guidance close to home.

You say not to waste your time by mentioning intake and exhaust mods, when really, you're just wasting your own time by not doing these first. You don't need to change computers unless you want to go to a FAST XFI setup...and you definitely don't need that. Like 96caprice said, the stock computer will be fine

I did a cam before I had headers and stall and such and it was a mistake. The cam gave me nothing, but then later when I did the gears, stall, headers I got BIG gains from them. I should have done all that first.

Call up comp cams or lunati and talk to one of their cam specialists. Give them all the info they ask for and tell them what you are trying to do. They will match a cam to your combo better than any internet forum can.
