Question Cam shaft for LT-4

Ok, the gen consensus was the cc306 cam is not all that great. most have also said the lt-4 cam is not "Hot". So going with the idea of a custom grind i called up comp cams. they told me they would take back the 306 in a direct exchange for a custom cam.

So going over what the car is going to be used for and a few things about what it has:

daily driver
ported lt4 heads
4.10 rear
looking for a blalence of power / good driveability

he streered me away from a custom grind and into the 07-503-8. So no one has to look up specs here they are:

Advertised duration: 276 intake/281 exhaust
Duration at .050 in.: 224 intake/230 exhaust
Gross valve lift: .503 in. intake/.510 in. exhaust
Lobe separation: 112 degrees
RPM range: 1,800 to 5,800

Being a novice, opinions mean a lot to be in regard to choice of cam, being as these numbers dont hold a lot of bearing in my uneducated mind.

If there is a better setup you know of for my needs, or opinions on this cam please post.

Thx much
Drew

That's the cam I've got. It's starting to become a popular 'middle of the road' cam. Not an annoying PITA to deal with everyday, but plenty of power. If you do some searches on it, you'll even find some dyno #'s - both with head work and stock heads. Very happy with it

With ported LT4's, I'd think you could go a bit larger (230/236) and be ok - especially if you have an M6.

The general consensus is wrong. Consistant bottom 12's from a pretty streetable cam isn't all that great? I don't think I would want anything bigger than the 306 in a street car.

Everyone i have talked to has said the 306 is dated. Not only that but they said the 306 will peak high, but not perform that well in all areas.

Im not really looking for peak performance, i want all around performance.

I had the 306 and almost got stuck with it, thank you comp cams for your understanding.

Thanks for the replies and its good to hear someone else has the cam and is happy with it. Just for grins, what else do you have done to your car?

so many different things have been said. so much of it is opinon. im not an engine expert, so its really hard to say. on the tidewaterracing forums people are admitting the 306 is a decent cam, but say its dated tech and its not as good as others out there. does anyone out there run a 306 in an lt4 as a daily driver?

i have a 306 in my daily driver. love the cam, i was going to go with the xe230-236 but thunder racing said that the 306 would be a sweet cam with my set-up. if I had to do it over again I'd call up cam motions and get a custom grind.

Question GM cam?

What about GM's cam part # 12370846?

specs are:

lift: I.543 / E.563 w/1.6 rockers

duration: 222 int / 230 exh with a 112 center

How well would that work with stock to mildly worked LT-4 heads?
It's a pretty big step up from a Hot Cam or a 305, but it's still smaller than a 306. I'm thinking about using this one since I have emissions to worry about. Let me know what you think.

I too have heard a couple knowledgeable people mention that their are better grinds out there then the CC306.

WHen I called up Cmotorsports for my head/cam recommendation using Lloyds heads, they recommended the 230/236 on a 112lsa. He said it will surge a bit in the 1500RPM area, which is where I cruise on the interstate at, but its worth the extra power. Otherwise he said the 224/230 is a good cam as well.
