Cam selection

Ok. I have mods in sig and am looking to now go to a better cam in the near future. I like the way the 847 looks based on some threads, and the fact that I like to stay all GM when possible, I bought this engine used before I get picked apart for that comment. But at the same point I don't want to rev to the sky either. I would like to shift no higher than 6500 and would actually like around 6,100(just a comfort thing). If the 847 will get this done and make more power than I am sold, but I am getting conflicting info on here about a good shift point for a 383 with this cam. Ultimately I want the sound and the power of a better cam.

Thanks as always.

If you want to stay GM the go with an 846 if you are planning on shifting at 6,100.

For a 383 and 6,100 RPM, get Lunati 60122 Voodoo cam. It says 2400-6200RPM, but that will drop with a larger cube motor.

EDIT: Get one of the BRE cams in the for sale section!

The GM cams are very old technology, IMO. You are leaving a lot on the table by going with the 846/857 cams.

Well it took a while but I bought the 847 cam and threw wanting to shift at 6,100 out the window. Before I install I had a quick stupid question. I am not going to have any clearance issue because of the stroker am I? I have seen this cam in many 383's on here but none state if it is a small base circle cam or factory grind. Any advise?

I saw one thread where the guy was having clearance issuse, but he had the entire engine out. I am not wanting to pull the engine put would like to know before I start the swap if I am going to hit. Already a 383 now and I am not hitting anything currently. Please advise.

Thanks

Call Crane and make sure it's a small base circle cam. I don't what you can do other than that.
