Cam selection

I need help choosing a cam, or being pointed to someone who can grind me one. This will be on unported stock heads. The car has 3.23 gears, 2800 converter (2.2STR),and a 100-150 shot. I am aiming for 340ish rwhp without spinning past 6400 rpms. Thank you!

EDIT: stock bottom end and stock rear end (rear may be changed soon)

Re: Cam selection

first link doesn't work. Any links to the cam grinder in the second thread? Any idea how much a custom cam like the one in the second thread would cost.

SStrokerAce is the cam designer. PM him....he's the man. Do a search and you find a ton of posts about his work. I personally have gotten a chance to work with him, and he is a very good guy. You won't be dissappointed if you chose him to do a cam for you.

Re: Cam selection

But couldn't you get a 847 on a 114lsa to bring down the power band? Or something like that with the CC306?

From what I read, those seem too big. I don't want to spin it too high becuase I will be running a larger shot of N20. The 350rwhp peaking at 6400 rpms seems perfect for me.

A 847 on a 114LSA would make power HIGHER and make less power.

Re: Cam selection

Dave from cms told me to use the 114lsa because I wanted to shift at 6k because of the stock bottom end... he said using a 112lsa would defeat the purpose because of the earlier shifts... so I figured it would be the same with other cams.

Re: Cam selection

sounds like you are looking for a hot cam, cc305 or a stage 1 cam from Brett (this is the cam he does for Lloyds heads).

Re: Cam selection

Chris,

Yeah I would say most LT cams that you see out there are way off. The LE2 cam is smaller in duration than a GM 847 cam but it peaks HP in the same 6400-6600range on ported heads and makes MORE midrange TQ. The one reason I keep cam specs "secrect" is because IMHO everything else is way off and seeing the specs on a good LT cam for ported heads might clue some of these guys in, in most cases it's not but in some cases this would be true. When someone says go to a higher LSA on this already big duration cam for a lower RPM range.... that scares me. You are moving the IVC (intake valve closing point) later, which will hurt dynamic compression, low end tq and you are taking the overlap out of the cam, all of those are not good things. I could write some really bad *** posts about what you want in a cam as far as specs go, but then again I'm fighting against my own pocket doing that. All guys really need to know is that this works and this doesn't......

As I've said before... Lloyd and I are getting these numbers with some pretty simple stuff. He's getting some really awesome ports in these heads that really move some wind and we are doing the right things in terms of cam specs and valvetrain.

Bret
