Cam question
Hey all, hope this is posted in the correct area, mods please move if not About to do a hotcam only swap, question is, would I have any issues firing the engine with a stock (hypertech "power" only) tuning? Or should I get a tune before even cranking it over? Any input would be appreciated, other than the cam, only mods are bolt ins in sig. Thanks!

Re: Cam question
The Hypertech "power program" has produced HP losses on stockish engines. I would delete the power program before doing anything. The LT4 HOT cam will run on stock programming, and won't do any damage, but it isn't going to run as well or produce as much power as it will with a good tune.
And if I understand you correctly, you are installing the LT4 HOT cam, but keeping the 1.5X roller rockers? That's going to limit the power gains from the cam even more. It was deisgned to work with 1.6's.
Then there's the "descreened MAF" but I'm sure you've heard all about that before and don't want to hear it again.

Fred, thanks for your always welcomed advice. I thought I had added it to my signature, (can't see on my phone) but I do have a set of Crane race gold RR's but yes, in stock ratio, with an LT4 KM. that was kinda going to be my next question.....if I would notice a SOTP difference switching up to 1.6 ratio. In which case I would want to do before a tune as well. Funds may however limit me to 1.5 for a bit though sadly, as this is the tail end of my rebuild. As far as the MAF thing, yep, I know lol. It's been like that since I purchased the car, it's in my sig because I figured it was worth mentioning as far as when I ask for tech

Thanks caprice, I'm going to stay stock with the injector size at least initially. What if any ill side effects should I expect, if any, with the LT4 hotcam on a stock tune, poor idle, etc?

Re: Cam question
The idle will be too low, the timing and fueling wrong with stock programming. I would expect some stalling, surging general bad manners.
Far as rocker ratio that cam was intended to be used with 1.6 rockers all round. If I could get 8 1.6s for free I might try it but really you want them all round, I would even be tempted to try 1.7s with updated springs. With 1.5s that cam is under .500lift with modern valvesprings there are a lot of cam only car running .560+ lift and a lot of heads/cam cars running .590-.610.

Thanks again Caprice, always good to hear from the "been there, done that" guys. I just picked up a new set of Howard's springs that are advertised to be good to .640, so should have no issues there...just trying to get all of my birds in a row before I commit to a particular tune...
