Cam Question.

Okay my opti is acting up an i need a new WP, so i decided why not throw the cam in there as well. Here's the problem, my old man thinks its a terrrible idea, he says that iam gunna throw a cam bearing or the thing wont run that well because the vavles have never been pushed that far before an what not. He also thinks that my MPG is gunna drop alot, is that true? either way i couldnt care less about the MPG.

I was thinking just a small cam, like a hotcam. Anyone experince this? or have a story to tell please shine in.

The "very" mild GM Hot cam(or a similar spec'd cam) would work great in your situation and pick up a pretty good amount of power......Seriously Not even "one" of the concerns mentioned are real issues to worry about with that size and type of cam................Joe

I agree, go with a tame grind and you shouldn't have any problems.

Don't forget to change the springs, too. Personally, I'm split by the hotcam. If you get it as a package deal it's nice because it comes with almost everything you need. However, it's also way too small for what I like, but that's a personal opinion.

I would like to just throw out the option of getting a slightly smaller cam with a spring kit that won't break your bank or hurt your drivability any more than the hotcam and that would be the Crane 227 baby cam.
CRN-104227 --- 210@ .479/ 224@ .518 (1.5RR)--- 112 LSA --- 2000-6000 RPM
Crane also makes a spring kit to go with it that would be perfect, and people seem to get better results with that one.

I would go with the 918 springs, they are designed for the heavier LT1 valves. The LT4 springs are designed for a little lighter LT4 valves.

I do have a set of never ran LT4 springs and hardware and a set of wide body comp cams 1.6 roller rockers. if you want to go with a CC503 or somthing like that.

email me if interested maybe2fast@gmail.com

btw CC503 is awesome!

Just a side note, the 918's were designed for the LIGHTER LS1 valves.

Also, don't put anything more than a hotcam in with LT4 springs. You'll really hurt something. Get the hotcam kit if you feel that 300 to the wheels will make you happy.

Is that really it? 300? I was thinking more around 320 or something. Either way iam keeping my options open. I just liked that because it was a kit.

It depends on everything else you have, but if you'd be happy with 300 then you're almost sure to get there. If you're not happy unless you get 320, then it might be possible to get less. Numbers aren't everything, it's the drive that counts.

Yeah i agree, but i just thought i would be a little higher than that. Even after a good dyno tune?

Not always, but sometimes. Google is your friend.
