CAM Question

I'm currently running the CC305 cam and want to go with something more aggressive, (still streetable, daily driven). I'm also running Isky springs that are good to .550 lift. I also have 1.6 roller rockers. What would be a good cam that's more aggressive with this setup. Forgive me, I don't understand cam numbers very well.

The CC305 that I have is a 220/230 duration, .510/.510 lift with a 114LSA.

Thanks.

BTW Heads have Been Ported and Polished by a local shop - no longer in business. Don't have good spec's on them.

230/236 X-treme energy cams by comp cams seem to be popular for M6 guys. I think the 224/230 is best for A4 guys w/ stock TC though. Both have various lift available. I think you will see about 15 hp increase.

What lift could I safely go with. Thats part of what I don't understand. The lifts that i've seen for the cams you talk about are shown with 1.5 rockers.

The cams here are shown with lifts using 1.6 rr's. Looks like u need to change springs if you do go with a bigger cam w/ 1.6 rr's.

if you don't want to change your springs then i think your in trouble. I believe even the smallest 230/236 will be too much lift with your 1.6's. I would get a whole new cam package from combo and try that 227/233 if i had it to do over again but that cam wasn't out when i needed one.

Um...What's wrong with the CC305? I went 12.38 @ 111.9 MPH last night with mine....With a full-weight '93 Z.

Their are some springs that cc makes that are drop ins. They do not require machining the head. I believe they are called "beehive" springs. They are good to .600 lift give or take depending on the install height.

Thanks Jeff, thats the kind of info I'm looking for. I really don't want to buy new springs but I'll probably do that. I absolutely don't have the budget or time to wait for machine work right now.

I'm never satisfied. Is it possible to change the springs without removing the heads?

It is possible to change the springs without removing the heads. You just need the right spring compressor.
