Cam opinions??

I'm bout to order a cam for the LT1 I'm about to buy.

Right now it has an LT4 cam in it, which I believe is 218 / 228, .525 / .525 112 LSA? So I'm assuming the springs and pushrods already in the car will handle another cam.

I'm torn between a few comp cams though. I'll be running stock heads for a few months until I can afford some new ones. Which cam do you think I should go with:

Comp 306: 230 / 244, .510 / .540 112 LSA

Comp Extreme: 224 / 230, .502 / .510 112 LSA

Comp Extreme: 230 / 236, .510 / .520 112 LSA

The car will have AS&M headers as well. I was kinda leaning towards the middle ont (224/230) ..... as I was afraid with stock heads the other two might be too much and cause problems?? What's ya'lls recommendations?

OK, you want an opinion huh? Did you do a search? There's cam topics all over this forum as this question comes up all the time. This is why no one else is posting on this thread.
If you're going to do your heads in a few months, why not wait until then to do the cam? With any of the cams you listed, you're definitely going to replace the springs anyway; the LT4 springs suck for anything bigger than the Hotcam.

I've seen good results with both the cc306 and the 230/236 on ported heads, so that's a tough call.

You're going to need a heavier duty set of springs b/c the hotcam springs are pretty much at their limit with the hotcam, they're really not too much of an upgrade. Combo motorsports have a set of springs that do not require machining of the heads to fit properly.

Anyways... why would the current springs have a problem though? The LT4 cam has more lift then these other cams, so I'd think the LT4 springs would be fine? Is that wrong?

Actually I think you may be right, and just for that reason. The LT4 cam pushes those springs to the limit (I actually htink it pusshes them to hard but I'm no mechanic) I think going with a lower lift cam you'd help the spring situation...I could be wrong though...

Exactly..... how could going with a lower lift cam be worse on the springs? Makes no sense to me! If I went with the 306 cam which has a higher exhaust lift, maybe I could understand, but the other two have a lower lift, so how could they possibly be worse on the springs???

The hotcam lift is rated with 1.6 ratio while all the other cams you've mentioned are rated with 1.5. So with 1.6 rockers the 230/236 for example whould have a lift of 0.544/0.555. with anyone of the came you've mentioned you need more spring.

Lol, I blew over $1000 on her for her damn bday, she doesn't need sh*t for another year

As for the springs... I didn't realize about the rockers. Damn crap, I swear... why do they hafta mix up all this crap? lol. Maybe it's just cuz I've had a few too many drinks tonight (tequila is fun!!!!!) but still, lol. Oh well, guess I'll just get the cam then save up a lil $$ for some springs.
