Is this CAM to much? Opinions Please

My friends says that this cam is going to be to much. He says that I am not going to have enough power at bottom end. I want as much power as I can get.......
This cam is a Comp cam of of Racenet.com (LT1 Packages)
Comp Cam Xtreme Energy cams.
Dur@.050 248 - 554/ Lift .562 - .580/ LSA 112/3200 - 6200 Range

With this I am getting

Port and polished heads
1.6 magnum Roacker Arms
Springs
retainers
hardened push rods
And a lot more stuff that I don't feel like typing

I am also putting in 3.42 gears instead of my 2.73s......

That cam would not really be a good choice for any motor. It really starts to break the barrier of how much is to much for a hydraulic roller. A hydraulic roller lifter can only withstand so much duration and still remain effective. This is the point where most people go to solid roller. No matter what size bottom end you have. If you were to put it in a stock bottom end car, you would be sadly disapointed. You just don't have the shortblock for it. You have to remember that the lift rating listed on that cam are for 1.5 rockers also, so with 1.6's you would end up with .600/.619 actual lift. Prolly some piston/valve clearence issues also. Bout the best you can get is the extreme 236/242 /112lsa. I'd reccomend the 242/248 if you had a larger bottom end.

That cam is WAY too big.I bet if you call Comp cams the biggest they would recommend is a 224/230.Maybe smaller.

To big man, way to big, you'll lose power at one point and your power band will just be a mess.

that cam is going to suck. not only is it too big for a 350 engine. in the even you could actually get the heads and other things to go along with it you would have to spin over 7k rpm which the stock computer cant do. bigger is not always better here. are you getting heads would be the first thing to ask because with a cam over 220* on the intake you kinda need em to make best power. theres a lot to be said for the power a cam will make based on the way its designed i know a guy who had a smaller engine (under 370 cubes) running a 214* intake number and he made over 600 hp with good heads and gobs of lift it still idled like a baby too. theres a lot more to cams that just big duration and lift numbers. too much for me to explain. but i recommend you do some reading about dynamic compression ratio. and what effect intake valve closing point has on how the engine acts. the amount of overlap is the other player here. and the ramp rates of the cam lobes are also very important in how the cam acts. you've got a lot of reading to do if you're considering a cam of this size for a 350 with stock heads.

basicly your car will be slower than **** with this cam. you'll lose all your low end power and probably your midrange. and when you get up to the rpm that you need to be in for the cam to make power your heads will have given up several hundred rpm ago.

hope you rethink it and you pick a good cam that you're happy with. just trying to provide info to make a wise decision with, sorry if i come off harsh.

take care.

Well, I'm sorry to be a broken record, but this cam is too big as has been mentioned, and one major reason is (yes, here it comes again) dynamic comporession ratio. This cam would have a lot of overlap and a late intake closing point. There is ~80 degrees of overlap and the DCR based on a 10.5:1 static CR is ~7.5:1. IOW, this cam would be quite poor.
